RE: New Manager Thread - Thurnscoe_OWL - 11-06-2015 yeah but a different manager may have kept Mattock on because he was our best LB instead of letting him go and then have to scramble around for a new one when we need another 7/8 players besides (same goes for any of the released players although not all were our best in their respective positions) RE: New Manager Thread - consilio - 11-06-2015 Mattock isn't good enough. Why keep him when he was out of contract? RE: New Manager Thread - St Charles Owl - 11-06-2015 I don't think it's amateurish at all. I think they kept him on, set up the committee and made a measured decision rather than a rash one!! As Consilio said though, the 11 out of contract players were really obvious decisions aside from Buxton or Mattock, but we can do better than both with a bit of money. The committee was in place 2 weeks before the end of the season and any decision should have been made then. Instead it's 5 weeks into pre-season and we have no manager and half a squad, the other half dont come back for training for 2/3 weeks so the new boss wont have time to look at his options. RE: New Manager Thread - St Charles Owl - 12-06-2015 But if we stick to the committee format then it doesn't matter who is the manager, its the system that drives things. I would be more worried had we given SG money to spend and then after spending it we got rid. Now is the limit of the right time admittedley, but the transfer window is only just open, so as long as an appointment gets made quickly there is plenty of time to get players in. Maybe the players the committee identified as the right targets turned us down due to SG being manager?? Or maybe we were waiting for the right guy to be first available and then willing to come. Either way, if we make the right appointment we now have a better chance of promtion in my eyes!! RE: New Manager Thread - spireitematt - 12-06-2015 John Sheridan left Plymouth for family reasons and wanted to move back up North and find a club. Would not surprise me if he gets the job. Would be absolute hilarious if Clough got offered the job and took you to the Premier League I would love to see the faces on the Sheffield United fans if that happened it would be priceless. RE: New Manager Thread - St Charles Owl - 12-06-2015 Personally I wouldn't want Sheridan. First he is a genuine hero among the fan base and I would hate to see that tarnished the way it has happened to others, and secondly I don't think his record as a manager is good enough, particualrly at the level. There also seems to always be something in the background when he leaves jobs other than just performances, sometimes it just doesn't add up with him?? As for Clough, he couldn't get the blunts promoted despite spending a ton of money and bringing in over 20 players. Also while he stabilised Derby, they were no longer progressing under him, so for me he would be a no as well. RE: New Manager Thread - St Charles Owl - 12-06-2015 Anyone else think the fact that Jokanovic previously managed a team in Thailand is just a coincidence?? He managed Muangthong United, the top team in Thailand and winners of the last 10 league titles!! |
