Northampton Town have completed the signing of midfielder Liam Shaw from Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old only joined Fleetwood in October having been released by Celtic in the summer.

Shaw, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, spent last season on loan with Wigan Athletic where he made 26 appearances without scoring a goal.

He cost Celtic £300,000 from Sheffield Wednesday in 2021 and made his debut in a Europa League tie against Real Betis.

He has also spent time with Chesterfield, Motherwell and Morecambe during his career and becomes Kevin Nolan's first signing since he took over as Northampton manager last month.

Northampton Town full-back Harvey Lintott has joined League of Ireland club Sligo Rovers on loan until the end of June.

The 21-year-old has made 59 appearances since joining the Cobblers from Gillingham in the summer of 2022 and helped them win promotion from League Two in his first season.

He has only played twice this season, though, most recently in a 3-0 EFL Trophy defeat by Peterborough United last month.

"There's a history here with a passionate fan base and I hope to be able to help the club push on. I think European football has to be the target and we'll be doing all we can as a group to achieve this," he told the Sligo website.

Northampton Town have signed Charlton Athletic midfielder Terry Taylor on loan for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old joins a side currently 20th, but five points clear of the relegation places, in League One.

Taylor joined Charlton from Burton Albion in summer 2023 and has made 14 appearances this season, the most recent against Mansfield on 14 December.

"It's going to help with competition (for places). I thought we were a bit light in there. We've now got four midfielders who I can play against each other in training," boss Kevin Nolan told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I think he's going to be a great addition to the squad in terms of his character - he's a winner, he wants to prove something.

"He showed a real eagerness and desire to come and play for Northampton, play for me, and he's going to make the squad much better."

Taylor is Northampton's second signing of the January transfer window following former Fleetwood midfielder Liam Shaw, and he could make his Cobblers debut away to second-placed Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday

Northampton Town have signed Burnley striker Dara Costelloe and Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Perry on loan for the rest of the season.

Perry, 20, has come through Forest's youth ranks and featured for their under-21 side in the EFL Trophy, but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the East Midlands side.

For 22-year-old Costelloe, it is his second loan of the campaign, and he steps up a level after scoring five goals in 17 League Two appearances for Accrington Stanley.

Republic of Ireland-born Costelloe - whose latest move comes on the day that he has signed a new Clarets deal - joined Burnley from Galway United in 2021 and has had previous loan spells at Bradford City, St Johnstone and Dundee.

"We think Dara can come in and offer something a little different," said Cobblers manager Kevin Nolan.

"He can be a spark, he can create things and he is very much an attacking threat.

"He is another player who we have brought here despite strong interest from other clubs as his performances this season have attracted attention.

"He has done really well at Accrington this season, we hope he will come and continue that here."

The deadline day additions of Costelloe and Perry come after Liam Shaw and Terry Taylor joined the Cobblers earlier in the transfer window.

Northampton are 20th in League One, five points above the relegation places, and will be away to Mansfield Town on Friday evening.

Costelloe's new deal keeps him with Championship high-fliers Burnley until June 2026.

"The club [Burnley] have continued to support my development as a footballer and I'm now looking forward to the next step with a loan spell at Northampton," he said.

Northampton Town have released 11 players after securing their place in League One for next season, while offering injured captain Jon Guthrie a new deal.

Kevin Nolan is reshaping the Cobblers squad but has offered deals to Guthrie - who has been out injured since January - Aaron McGowan, Mitch Pinnock, Josh Tomlinson and Max Dyche.

Pinnock was named Northampton's player of the season at the weekend and has played 200 games for the club since signing from Kilmarnock in 2021.

Nolan has released Tyler Magloire, Jack Sowerby, James Wilson, Nik Tzanev, Ali Koiki, Liam McCarron, Harvey Lintott, Akin Odimayo, Will Hondermarck, TJ Eyoma and Reuben Wyatt.

Goalkeeper Lee Burge will stay after triggering an appearance-related 12-month extension to his contract, while discussions are ongoing with winger Tariqe Fosu.

The Cobblers have nine players under contract for the 2025-26 season as it stands.

Nolan said: "We have made some difficult decisions and it is never nice having to tell a player that their contract is not being renewed.

"Some of these players have been at the club a number of years and have played a big part here, helping the club enjoy some good times.

"We believe we have a good core of players here, both in terms of ability and culture, which is very important, and we are excited to be entering into discussions with our chosen targets to build on and add to that over the course of the summer."

Northampton Town captain Jon Guthrie has signed a new deal keeping him at the League One club until at least the end of the 2025-26 season.

Guthrie, 32, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

The central defender joined the Cobblers in 2021 from Scottish club Livingstone and was given the captain's armband the following year by then manager Jon Brady.

Guthrie is currently recovering from anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered during Northampton's 0-0 draw against Stevenage on New Year's Day.

"We wouldn't have awarded the contract if we didn't feel he could come back and have an impact next season and we are all working very hard to get Jon back, fit and ready to go as soon as possible," Cobblers boss Kevin Nolan said.

"Jon is a leader in the group, he helps to set the tone and drives the standards you need.

"He is an excellent professional, a top character and you can't have too many of those in your dressing room."

Guthrie has made 156 appearances in all competitions for Northampton, scoring 15 goals.

Northampton Town have signed Nottingham Forest midfielder Jack Perkins for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has made six EFL Trophy appearances for Forest and been a regular in their Premier League 2 side.

He has agreed a two-year deal at Sixfields and is Northampton's first summer signing after securing their League One status for a third successive season.

"We are well aware of what he is capable of and we had him training with us for a week before the season ended so we could get a really close look at him," said Cobblers boss Kevin Nolan.

"You could see how well he fitted in with the group. We could see he has a really good mindset, a very good work ethic and a strong desire to do well and to compete and progress.

"We feel we can help develop Jack to hopefully become an important member of the squad here and we are looking forward to working with him."

The signing of Perkins follows captain Jon Guthrie agreeing a new deal with the club to run until at least the end of next season.

RE: New Cobblers - themaclad - 29-05-2025

Northampton Town have signed versatile defender Jack Burroughs on a two-year contract following his release by Coventry City.

Burroughs, whose main position is right-back, can also operate at left-back, wing-back, and in midfield.

The former Scotland youth international made 20 appearances for the Sky Blues, with his final game proving to the Coventry's defeat by Ipswich Town in the FA Cup in February.

Burroughs had been with Coventry since he was seven and had loan spells in the past two seasons with Lincoln City in 2023-24 and the first half of this season with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, where he played in the Europa Conference League.

"He brings pace and athleticism, versatility, he is good on the ball and has a very good attitude. We believe he'll be a valuable addition to our squad and we believe he can have an impact here.

"He had other offers and other interest so it is a feather in our cap that we have been able to bring him to Sixfields."

Burroughs, whose move will formally go through on 1 July, is Northampton's second summer signing, after the arrival of midfielder Jack Perkins from Nottingham Forest.

RE: New Cobblers - themaclad - 30-05-2025

Northampton have made their third signing of the summer by bringing attacking midfielder Kamarai Swyer to Sixfields on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old West Ham academy graduate, who can operate in a central or wide role, previously worked with Cobblers boss Kevin Nolan at the London Stadium.

Swyer follows midfielder Jack Perkins and defender Jack Burroughs as additions to Nolan's squad for the 2025-26 season.

"Kamarai is a talented young player with huge potential. We think we are getting him at a good time," said Nolan.

"He is on an upward curve, he had a standout season in Premier League 2 last season, with eight goals and 10 assists - the most number of goal involvements for any West Ham player.

"He is ready to challenge himself and go to the next level and that is what we will work with him to help him achieve."

Swyer made a single first-team appearance for the Hammers in their Europa Conference League game against Steaua Bucharest in November 2022 and also had an 11-match loan spell with Crawley in League Two the following season.

Northampton Town have signed goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons on a one-year contract after his departure from Scunthorpe United.

The 31-year-old made 44 appearances for The Iron last season as they won promotion from National League North.

Fitzsimons will be reunited with Northampton boss Kevin Nolan who he played under at Notts County.

"His performances last season were fantastic, he broke all sorts of records and picked up the Goalkeeper of the Year Award at the National Game Awards which says all you need to know about how well he did and he deserves this opportunity," Nolan told the club website., external

Northampton already have goalkeepers Lee Burge and James Dadge registered for next season.
