RE: WBA vs Bolton & Nottm Forest - Baggiebob(BBB) - 04-08-2018 Not to be too disheartened. Each time we lost 1st game in Champ league we were promoted. Next game next Tuesday. True and we started so well last season under Pulis - things do change RE: WBA vs Bolton & Nottm Forest - Salopbaggie - 05-08-2018 (04-08-2018, 18:24)bomberbrown1968 Wrote:(04-08-2018, 18:09)Salopbaggie Wrote: Well that's the going unbeaten all season dream gone then. Here are my thoughts:- Yes we had more possession but we didn't look dangerous when attacking. Johnstone was hesitant at times and didn't come off his line to collect the ball, this put the defenders under pressure. To concede two goals from set pieces is very disappointing and we need to improve defensively. Our midfield lacked creativity. Harvey Barnes was the one stand-out player. A really skilful player and his goal was superb. HRK and JRod did very little up front. The referee and linesmen were shocking. On one occasion offside was given even though the "offside" players were inactive and the player who got the ball had run from an onside position. Finally, what the **** is that new mascot? We are going to be ridiculed throughout the season when Billy the Boiler dances in front of the away fans. I totally agreed with the chant of the Bolton fans! "What the ******* hell is that?" It is early days and I am not panicking yet, but there is serious work to be done. Come on you Baggies! RE: WBA vs Bolton & Nottm Forest - Salopbaggie - 05-08-2018 Still not getting this Rondon/Gayle saga, before the time expired on the release clause, everything was perfectly understandable. Now it has expired, why are we even considering a deal? If I had a state of the art, big 'multi-functional' power drill, you have an old Black and Decker and I offer to swap drills with you and add in a couple of quid, I am pretty sure I know where I would I tell you to go? The fact that a person even considers this deal (unless it is extremely silly 10-12 mill plus Gayle (who has stated several times he does not want to come to us)) should automatically bar that person from being part of any deal making process. RE: WBA vs Bolton & Nottm Forest - Worldclassalbion - 05-08-2018 Why I do like Gayle we need a big bruiser up front. Someone who can out strength defenders and hold the ball up for our Midfielders to get forward. RONDON is that player. I’m sure Rondon and Gayle will get goals in this league but Rondon has more presence unless we get Gayle and maybe Connor Wickham from Palace. I thought Big Dave got it all wrong yesterday. He changed the formation from the friendlies, only made one substitution and started with HRK and Rodriguez up front. Surely Burke and JayRod would have been better? No drive from midfield ala Jimmy Morrison. JayRod was in midfield more than attack, Johnston never came off his line, no communication between Hegazi and Bartley, Nyom to slow in crossing the ball when he had the chance. Livermore although busy was totally inaffective. Brunty back to the standard of when he was last captain kept throwing his arms up in the air when HE made a bad pass. The only player who stood out was Harvey Barnes, head and shoulders above the others. Tactics and team selection was wrong, lack of substitutions in that heat was unforgivable. Anyway it’s the first game but I was expecting a statement to be made yesterday but we were like a church mouse. No tempo, no drive, not much to shout about. Play like that in the week and Forest will smash us. I’m very disappointed but remain hopeful we’ll get it right but we need to ship out the likes of Chadli and Dawson who obviously don’t want to be here. Maybe Rondon and JayRod will go but we need quality replacements otherwise we will be in trouble. And that embarrassing white box running around the pitch....... WTF Very underwhelming yesterday. Onwards and upwards. ![]() Stoke have been hammered by Leeds today. 3–1 down with 16 minutes plus stoppage time left. Leeds 3-1 Stoke. Typical Marcelo Bielsa start to a season. His teams always make intense, fast starts and look a level above the rest. The problem is the intensity of the training and Bielsa himself eventually bares down on the players and leads to a slump which can never be fully stopped. This typically comes in the second half of the season. |
