Good old phrase covers this subject
"Sticks and Stones"
Or is this no longer allowed either?

New rules to be introduced where all footballers will have to undergo a breath test before
entering the field of play.
I'm afraid J Rod will be found guilty and banned for 5 games, even if he is innocent .
He has to be to maintain the games so called standards. This is the so called PC world we now live in.
Every player will no longer be allowed to speak to any other player without the risk of racism
complaints. All commentary will be banned just in case - all games will be in silence????
This is opening a can of worms which could lead to the end of the any competitive sport as we know it.
Better to leave well alone and introduce a you must ignore rule when on the field of play.

Which is, of course, a genuine possibility.  A lot of people on here seem very eager to assume the worst possible motive on Bong's part, based on no evidence that I can see.  If he had a longstanding feud with Rodriguez or a lengthy history of crying wolf on stuff like this then I'd be suspicious, but I don't think he does.  So yeah, he may well just have misheard.

If he HAD misheard, or if his English isn't that brilliant he shouldn't have complained to this level, or posted what he did on social media, OR said what he (apparently) said on French TV.....he should've qualified it with "I think" or something similar

But people who mishear things genuinely don't realise that they've misheard. I've had many an argument with people who swear blind I've said one thing when they've simply (mis)heard another, and they won't back down. And that's in perfectly quiet rooms, let alone in a stadium full of bloody clappers on the go.

My point though, Ska'd, is that if it was a LANGUAGE issue, and a person isn't completely fluent in it, it would be a foolish person (IMO) who would dig his heels in and create such a storm.
My opinion.

Yeah, it's fair to say that he should perhaps be more honest with himself about his fluency in English and the possibility of misunderstanding. But that's still a different thing to deliberately and wrongly levelling an accusation of racial abuse at a man out of pure malice, which no one should blithely assume is the case here unless there's evidence to suggest it.

Is there an actual Law that prohibits someone calling somebody else "Fatso"? or "Ginger"? Are kilts and Irish jokes still ok? (Some Irish comedians would be out of work if that were so). I know sombreros were banned from a Students' carnival because one Mexican "snowflake" in Guadalajara was "offended".
"Snowflakes" with halitosis are really enjoying themselves, feeling superior to the common man. Strip Shows are closing down, because the strippers are offended, and ventriloquist dummies are banned by one midget snowflake.

I don't mind any of the above at all, but I just wish I knew, in case I upset some "Dingle" who doesn't like me taking the piss.

Shut up you old git Laugh

I am actually aware of the situation you mention talksaft and it is not at all as it was printed in the 'Daily Fail' that the University banned sombrero's as they are racist. The truth was that during freshers week a Mexican restaurant attended an event at the university which was attended by local business's (basically we're here use us) and they were giving away sombreros to the students. However the Student Union who organised the event has a policy which states companies visiting the university are not allowed to give away items, which re-enforce racial stereotypes, they were not saying don't wear them or that wearing them was racist, just you can not give away freebies which carry on a stereotype.

I think this is where much of the problems lie, newspapers are there to make money and so sensationalise everything they think will sell them more papers and the truth be dammed. Its the old adage if they were writing a piece the bloke who f**ted in the pub and by the time the paper came out he'd would have s**t himself. Smile
