RE: Acceptable Content - Southeyowl - 09-10-2014 EVERYBODY OUT! RE: Acceptable Content - Thurnscoe_OWL - 09-10-2014 Like I've said, there will be no more pictures (of any kind - female/players/random) on my posts. I'll still allude to them but instead I will post "censored". I ask Maddix to do the same in his threads (in fact everyone in their posts) until we're not being treated like kids. RE: Acceptable Content - Statesideowl - 09-10-2014 There's the old chestnut. "Financially viable" May I ask how much hosting this forum is? There's unlimited bandwith on dedicated servers for a little over 100 pounds a year ( MyBB which you use here quotes $6 a month, $72 per YEAR) Split that between 'X' many. And there's still the need for revenue? I understand the necessity to have the site pay for itself, but it is definitely not putting anyone in the position where you NEED to fill every blank space with annoying ads. I appreciate the clarification though Stairs, and your post really only needed to be a couple of lines long as it was mostly 'filler' No (semi nude) pictures are ever going to be allowed, someday (possibly) the F word will be allowed and most importantly you're after revenue... There's no more ongoing discussion is there? it's a nice semblance of democracy, but you stated your terms and unwillingness to change them. Just being straight up is better than insulting peoples intelligence.. Just my opinion RE: Acceptable Content - Thurnscoe_OWL - 09-10-2014 Just to quote Maddix from our "NEW" old home This is interesting :- Board Statistics Totals Averages Posts: 7,380 Threads: 493 Members: 209 Posts per day: 200.09 Threads per day: 13.37 Members per day: 5.67 Posts per member: 35.31 Threads per member: 2.36 Replies per thread: 13.97 General Newest Member: 4oaks baggie Members who have posted: 77.99% Today's top poster: Stairs (11 posts) Most popular forum: Sheffield Wednesday (2,695 posts, 29 threads) Top referrer: Amelia Chaffinch (18 referrals) Most Popular... Perhaps a bit of consultation before the big brother tactics wouldn't have gone amiss RE: Acceptable Content - Amelia Chaffinch - 09-10-2014 Perhaps you could send your pictures to each via PM if they are so important. At least then I wouldn't have to see what you think of women. RE: Acceptable Content - Stairs - 09-10-2014 We do not wish to make lots of money. We did this as a result of a request and are happy to continue doing it. We dod not want to plaster the site with adds, just place one or two adverts for a fee that covers our costs - not urgent, just desirable. We will never allow the C word (almost everyone agrees with that) and we are not happy to have the F word dominate the site (most are happy with that). Added to this we do not feel there is any reason to post nudity, sexually suggestive or abusive images (only a few seem to have a real problem with this). I do take exception at both Mark and myself being referred to as we are above. If you can't accept the request to work within these very slight restrictions then please exercise your rights and move back to the previous site or other. RE: Acceptable Content - Thurnscoe_OWL - 09-10-2014 Its not the restrictions that's the problem, it's the way you've gone about it. I understand the need for funding and new members, but you don't set about getting these things by making examples of your existing cliantele RE: Acceptable Content - Statesideowl - 09-10-2014 Honestly, I can live without the pictures as much as I do enjoy them and as much as they are our 'lucky charms'. However, they are not the most important content. The main point is as Imre said above, you can't tell people one thing then move the goalposts once you got the population here to suit your own purposes. That's using people as a means to an end, not cool. I simply can't entirely agree about the profanity, No-one, at any time, has been forced to sit through any verbal abuse, this is a written medium, if you don't like a poster, BLOCK THEM or simply do not read whatever they contribute if it offends your delicate sensibilities. If you can't do that, then wrap yourself in cotton wool and never leave the house again, there are far worse things in this world than someone gobbing off on a football forum. How about child poverty in the UK? an entire class of wage slaves working below the bread line? TB back on the rise in UK. Some people need to apply a little introspection and ask themselves, how overly privileged you must be in order to take 'offence' at someone else swearing. Take a stand on something real in the world, because this is truly pathetic. RE: Acceptable Content - Thurnscoe_OWL - 09-10-2014 (09-10-2014, 16:15)Stairs Wrote: We do not wish to make lots of money. Why don't you stop beating about the bush and tell us that we're the only ones who won't be pushed around by this totalitarian regime RE: Acceptable Content - Statesideowl - 09-10-2014 At the end of the day, it's their website and they're currently paying for it even if it is peanuts. They're well within their rights to run it however they like. and in fairness they were doing a good job up until now. This is a nicely built site, fair do's. As for this idea that football fans lean towards the articulate, well spoken and easily offended, and not a more 'yobbish' lads letting loose on a sports Saturday mentality, is delusional. This is also why the population envisioned here will never happen. |
