But they all defend behind the base line Fredster! The only difference is some of the top guys are more aggressive than other players. I'd love to see a top class 'serve and volley' player coming to the fore again but can't realistically see it happening as the preferred style of play is dictated from the base line and an aggressive 'server/volleyer' would generally be 'picked off' by a base line opponent.

Aye 0762, the old style serve and volleyer wouldn't have a chance against the modern baseline player. Technology has moved the rackets etc on and the speed they can generate in passing shots would mean the server would only be halfway to the net before the return flashed back past him. Added to the pace of the return is the accuracy the top players can achieve.

Yep newhavenhibby! Absolutely right and it unfortunately forces any budding server and volleyer to be realistic and 'move with the times'. IMO that type of player provided a good part of the entertaining tennis that we used to watch years ago and is still sorely missed.

I always liked watching Borg playing his baseline game against a serve /volley player.....always an entertaining game with 2 completely different styles pitting their wits against each other. At the time they said there was no future for staying on the baseline   Doh

Ivan Lendl joins up with Murray for the second time - the Wimbledon trophy 'is in the bag'!! Wink

Why did they split in the first place? Murray certainly improved when they were working together.

I believe it was Lendl who 'walked' St Charles Owl. He'd done 2-3 tennis seasons with Murray and just wanted to get a break away from it all. Lets face it, Lendl does not need the money and I can empathise with his previous situ where the job becomes 'a bit of a bind'! I'll be surprised if this time round Lendl will be with Andy for too long a period mainly because the Czech is his own man and single-minded with it.

And Andy picks up the Aegon Classic title v Raonic this afternoon and that's a record pre-Wimbledon 5th title at the Queens Club! Thumb up Now for the Wimbledon title after that nice little warm up with another trophy 'in the bag'! Great stuff!
