Grant Holt is the type of player we have missed since Alan Alan Lee left.

RE: Huddersfield v Miwaw match thread - MNTerrier - 27-09-2014

but Holt looks like he can actually play and hold the ball up , i made a comment on twitter today that Holt is no Lee,Parkin or Stead and thats a good thing. got some flack because Jon Stead is a "legend"

RE: Huddersfield v Miwaw match thread - Mirf - 27-09-2014

MNT,

How do you get Jon Stead to be a Legend?  Confused  - He's more of a Leg End as far as I can see.  Lets be honest, in his 12 year career to date he's played in 385 league games and for a so called striker has only netted 87 times, which equates to only 7.25 goals per season, which is an absolute pittance.  Furthermore, he's only played 86 league games for Town and scored a paltry 24 goals.  Blush

So, don't try telling me that any striker who only finds the net once every 4.4 games throughout is career, is anywhere near being a legend.  Genuine Town legends are such as Denis Law, Les Massie, Frank Worthington and Boothy etc. and stead couldn't lick the boots of any of them.  Thumb up

I think mnt got the flak because he wasn't saying that Steady is a legend.

Am is right ,
i was saying it was a good thing Holt isnt like stead....the other guy was calling him a legend , my response was pretty much the same as yours Marko, one good season for town and an average journeyman ever since

RE: Huddersfield v Miwaw match thread - Lord Snooty - 28-09-2014

I thought it was obvious what you were saying, MNt. I had the same problem with an Ashton Utd fan on Twitter today. Sometimes people read stuff and think you're being serious, when it's perfectly obvious you're not.

Can't believe how happy people are with yesterday, if anything just highlighting how dire we've been under Powell so far. I'm not convinced we deserved the 3 points although I'll happily take them, & the football we're playing for the most part is still uninspiring & will put punters off attending regardless of results. Apart from the result, Wells & Bunn (superb again) I still don't have much to be positive about - that line-up with that intention of play will see us get put away by teams who aren't as awful as Millwall were. Massive improvement needed on Wednesday if we're to avoid a hammering, I'm going but my interest is quickly waning under Powell.

Not happy, Cas. Just hugely relieved.

An ugly win was all we wanted and after a dire 1st half against a dire Millwaaaaaaaaaaal side it didnt look great at ht heading into the 2nd 45 mins. Fortunately we got at them more, Bunn really started to hurt them, Hudson & Lynch, to his credit, this week at least, held firm for the 90 mins and after the pen, when their player clearly shoved the ref and should have been off, we held our nerve to survive a late onslaught. Smithies too a superb reflex save from the corner.

The 5 at the back will win us no fans, apart from Wells superb opportunist strike we were once again toothless, Smith was nervy and Butterfield made a lot of wrong decisions, I can see a pattern developing he's either on his A game or fades badly makes lots of errors and isnt as pacey I first thought.

Holt did exactly what Stead lacks in physical strength n power to keep the opponents back 4 occupied. I just hope we can extend his initial loan, while Vaughan either recovers properly or a slim chance we can afford his prem wages longer term and Vaughan's insurance kicks in to retire him end of the season.

At the end of the day it was 3 vital points, 2 tricky away fixtures I'm not too hopeful of getting owt till Blackpool come into focus after the Int break.

The crowd finally responded after 60 mins and everyone deserved the standing ovation at ft.
Once again noticebale how little the noise from the NSL travels to the other end - you need to get upstairs chaps.

It was about getting 3 points yesterday, another defeat would have extremely alarming. First half wasn't great but second we got stuck in and its something to build on. Think Powell has to be a bit more adventurous, granted Millwall were crap and a better team might have beaten us, I'd start Holt Tuesday as if we can keep the ball up top Wells is a natural finished and can pick up on anything Holt's presence creates.
