I've seen footage of the Kop at Anfield applauding opposition goals when they scored in the mid-Sixties. Was that a widespread phenomenon which died out, or was it always limited to those polite Scousers?

The Scousers were always very sporting. And Liverpool/Everton were the only away games where I felt safe (back in late 60's, early 70s). They didn't seem to need to 'prove' themselves.

Thanks for sharing that great video Ska'd. My Dad has told me a lot about watching football matches in the 60's in the terraces so it is great to see a colour video showing what it was like. Thumb up

Are there any more videos by that show about football in the 60's?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything as good as that video, but you can find some compilations of MOTD from the Sixties:

I chuckle when modern day players complain about the state of football pitches.
The ball is bobbling about,
The pitch is uneven! etc. etc.

Try playing on flattened mud with an old heavy leather ball that got heavier and heavier as it got wet.

WE had to!!

Just to revive this, another old chant about Colin Suggett from 1969/70 which has been aired on Twitter:

Suggo, Suggo
He's off to Mexico
'Cause Francis Lee has got VD
Suggo, Suggo!

Please have a 'LIKE' to everyone of the above posts - I love this club.

My old man's a Geordie (I know) so my first few games were going with him to watch Newcastle - he still takes the p*ss out of me for distancing myself from him when he started shouting 'Howay the Lads' in the Tottenham end at WHL  (I was seven years old FFS and I'd do the same now)

Luckily I was born in The Black Country and from early-mid '70's I started going as a young kid with my mates to a proper club.

My first memories were a bit later than above but generally involved being crushed against a barrier while pissed-up adults (probably including those above  Laugh ) surged from the top of the Brummie towards us. Sounds dangerous but it was exhilarating and in those days the Brummie was the place to be - the songs and chants were deafening, the ground was rammed, the team was good and soon became awesome.

I know seating was necessary but it's killed the atmosphere. It's just not the same and safe standing is the way forward - I hate sitting to watch football.

Long live The Brummie. Many Happy Returns (and get terracing back)

Does anybody remember what the hell this was all about, at Albion in 1978?

It's not exactly in Baggie Bird's league as a mascot!

I just don't get this love in with Liverpool supporters. As you approach the ground you pass under a couple of pedestrian bridges.Sometime ago now but, many times I have had house bricks hurled at the car,not only damaging car,but nearly giving my poor old Dad a heart attack! They are just a bunch of tossers as far as I am concerned!
