Well, as they say, "A week is a long time in football"......
Just thought this was worth revisiting; not regarding whether people have necessarily changed their minds over AI because of this last week, but more what he has possibly done regarding a few of the players.
I've got to admit that I only saw what MOTD showed v Burnley, but all the write ups I've seen have really praised Brunty, Mozza & Dozza for their displays. Maybe they HAVE been sub standard before the Spurs game, but maybe AI's methods are now starting to hit home to the whole squad, and these 3 are being able to play with a bit more freedom than before? I believe that Saido is also praising AI in the way he's been treated too.

I'm really just using these as an example as they're the most obvious ones to use, but are we now seeing the first real improvements of AI's coaching and personal skills/man management coming through on the pitch? A number of us WERE saying that maybe after 10 games it would be fairer to judge him - is this now proving to be the case?

I guess we'll be able to judge better after the next 2 games - but then maybe we're hoping for too much to compete against the megarich clubs in the top 6.

I am not getting carried away just yet.Think back to the Clarke experience, played brilliant football for about 2 months, then he just totally lost the plot!

RE: Alan Irvine - silverbaggie - 30-09-2014

I think that the jury is still out but, any improvement is very welcome.

RE: Alan Irvine - Worldclassalbion - 02-10-2014

Agree with above coupme of posts. I am obviously a lot happier BUT Burnley were absolutely woeful and i dont think its because we were brilliant. Yes we were very much improved but i will hold further judgement for a while yet. I was worried Varela was not even on the bench!?

Pace and high pressure goes a long way in this league and the likes of Gamboa and Varela are only getting minutes on the pitch.

Lescott is massive for us now and Dawson looks so much better with him in the side. Onwards and upwards...... Hopefully

RE: Alan Irvine - drewks - 04-10-2014

So Liverpool weren't Burnley.....we STILL looked very good IMO, a class above how we've looked for about 18 months.
It's all down to opinions, but MINE is that AI is starting to prove what a good coach he is Smile

Would be even better if he picked our best Eleven Whistle

RE: Alan Irvine - WillieJohnstonsGreenhouse - 04-10-2014

Before I get dog's abuse, can I say I was in agreement with the previous posts but rather than start a new thread I think it will be interesting to follow this through.

I was massively underwhelmed by AI's appointment. I think my anger was more at JP than anything. I always thought we deserved better.

Anyhoo.............we move on.

We lost today at Anfield but I don't feel despair. I don't hate the manager, I don't hate the players, I don't hate JP.

We looked freaking good.

Whatever people said about Liverpool struggling at the moment I took with a huge pinch of salt. Liverpool these days are never weak at Anfield.

I expected a stuffing at Spurs, I expected a stuffing at Liverpool. (I honestly thought we'd go out of the Cup to Hull).

I'm scared to say this but................................................................................................................................................

We have a good, entertaining team

There I've said it - I feel purged, Champo here we come

Doh  Doh  Doh  Doh  Doh  Doh  Doh  Doh  Doh

On the plus side (if we need one) - ''West Brom capable of better' - Irvine''  - I'm starting to believe him and I like it. COYB

RE: Alan Irvine - drewks - 04-10-2014

Willie .....I think I love you.
Seriously, your post says it all; I agree and think we're going to be a match for ANYBODY this season - and we're surely only going to improve as all the new players, and all the OLD players, get used to the new Head Coach
