Cant even open a Basic Bank acct at Nat west
Apparently the letter (which was sent to me after I did all the work for them filling out shite online) on their stationary, with my name and address along with my passport is 'insufficient' proof of who I am and where I live?? Jobsworth insists I need a utility bill or mortgage payment. Now how do I manage that when I've been in the country 3 weeks and I'm staying with my folks? not a spark of critical thought in this country whatsoeverYou can't do anything unless here unless you're working that angle. If I adorned my head with religious garb, they can't bend over fast enough whilst apologising.. What a xxxx shit hole this place has become, each time I come back it's worse.
Basically, the gist of every interaction is.. " What you doing back here whitey? there's nothing for you here"

I had similar problems with the UK bank. I've had a joint account with my wife since the 80's but when we wanted to move some money into a savings scheme it had to be in her name only since mysteriously she was ' validated' but I wasn't and needed a utility bill or something to get validated - in spite of them knowing I live in the US since they've been mailing statements to me since 1993 !!!!
I think a lot of this issue is related to good oid Uncle Sam's financial regulations they imposed on everyone and total lack of thought in UK systems about expats keeping money there since they might return one day - looking less and less likely for me !!!

It's not just ex-pats. We have a joint savings account that my mrs gets her wages paid into. A couple of years ago they scrapped the cash point cards for this type of account. Since then we have been trying to get her name added to my current account with the same bank so that she can get a cash point/debit card. Unfortunately she doesn't exist according to HSBC as all the utility bills are in my name and she doesn't have a passport anymore. This is despite banking with them for over 15 years, having letters from HMRC, the DWP and having a full CRB check as she's a teacher and, not least, having her wages paid in to that f'ucking bank already
So she has to go online and transfer her wages into my account every month so that we can use them 
F'UCKING WANKERS or should I thank them
she has no access to money unless I'm there or go and get her some from the cashpoint Seriously though, what would she do if I was hospitalised or worse ? commit fraud by using my card ? WANKERS
I'm tempted to take her in wearing a hijab and burka if we can ever be arsed to try and sort it out again

Real life example from here ...
I have in the past worked on Projects requiring a government security badge ( :cool ) but these things have to periodically get renewed. Having handed my old one in at the counter I then get taken round the back for a new picture to be taken for my new badge.
5 minutes later the same person who took the old badge and the new picture comes out with said new badge with my picture on (showing the same clothes I'm wearing and same messy hair) and asks before they will give it to me 'Do you have some photograph ID with you? !!!
Fortunately, my drivers license worked
