RE: To alleviate the boredom - SaltergateBorn - 19-03-2020 God, this takes me back to when I used to do the quizzes; there was always one who bloody argued! (And who`d have thought it would have been you, Dancing?) I`m not going to put up the answers yet so as to give Dev a chance; he said he was going to have a go at them today so it really wouldn`t be fair to post them before he has the chance. For the record, though, Chesterfield and Morecambe are WRONG. They are INCORRECT. They are ERRONEOUS. And the editor`s decision is final on that. My game, my rules! RE: To alleviate the boredom - Dancingwilldoit - 19-03-2020 In that case I'm taking my ball back. RE: To alleviate the boredom - Devongone - 19-03-2020 1. I thought Port Vale (from carry?) 2. PNE 3. It took ages we need more, the incarcerated that is!) RE: To alleviate the boredom - SaltergateBorn - 19-03-2020 Right, then. Presumably everybody who`s interested has had a go. There are 5 that nobody has worked out / guessed so to drag out the fun (pain?) a bit longer I`ll give you some hints on those 5 so you can have another go at them if you wish. I`ll put the full answers up tomorrow unless otherwise instructed. 6. It`s not Barnet; yer barnet`s yer `air, not yer `ead. (Barnet fair = hair.) Much bigger club than that. Hint: Think of `heads` as a verb, not a noun. 16. I`m amazed that nobody got this. It`s much simpler than the convoluted thinking you need to go through to get to Chesterfield as an answer. Hint: Think of Robin Hood (or Daniel Day-Lewis, if you prefer.) 23. Slightly embarrassed to include this one (no I`m not; I don`t embarrass that easily) but it`s local to me and I first used it at a quiz down here some years ago. To be fair, I didn`t say that they were all EFL or SFL teams. This one never has been and almost certainly never will be. Hint: Larry Grayson`s home town. 26. This one did reach dizzy heights some years ago after a famous run in the FA Cup before returning to obscurity again. No longer in the EFL. Hint: The Bulls. 34. Again, I`m surprised nobody got this. There are much more obscure clues that you all seemed to twig easily enough. Hint: The Lewis of the first half was a great athlete, but he`d have needed to master the water jump to get off the second half. RE: To alleviate the boredom - Lord Snooty - 19-03-2020 34. I hope that helped to pass a bit of time whilst some of us are slammed up. RE: To alleviate the boredom - Lord Snooty - 20-03-2020 Very good. Just a couple I don't quite understand. Luton and Raith Rovers. RE: To alleviate the boredom - SaltergateBorn - 20-03-2020 Both of those are a play on words, Snoots. A lute is a string instrument similar to a guitar and a wraith is another word for a ghost. RE: To alleviate the boredom - Lord Snooty - 20-03-2020 Lute. Yes of course. There is an old make of guitar called Vale and port is another word for carry. That was one I was sure was correct. ![]() Never heard of a wraith before though. Every day's a school day. Well not after today. ![]() |
