RE: Martin Allen has left the club - Devongone - 02-01-2019 Cook is literally way out of our league. If Wigan want him to create a better team they have to pump in the resources to do it. At the moment they are built for possible survival in the Championship, not a promotion battle. They should keep Cook and let him use the transfer window. We reached a full stop at Paul Cook. His team was at the point of breaking up and leaving. He would have needed resources to keep some of his best players and to build on them .......... because we were decent under him, but we weren't good enough to go up. He clearly knew the level of investment coming in and Dean Saunders, Danny Wilson and so on went on to demonstrate it was not only insufficient for the club to improve, but it wasn't even enough to cover poor management and avoid relegation. Of the management decisions made - Caldwell and Saunders were the wrong men anywhere at any time in the universe, Danny Wilson was fine but he was building without bricks, Lester got an almost impossible job and shackled himself to a terrible backroom who were supposed to cover for his inexperience, whilst Martin Allen was a perfectly reasonable choice who didn't work out. BUT it does have to be remembered this is the same club that also recruited Sheridan and Cook - so it hasn't all been failure. The trouble with Pemberton is that he has said he doesn't want the job - he didn't have to do that - so sitting and seeing how potential relegation pans out doesn't look like a viable option to me. If he hadn't said that I'd have been prepared for a slow process with a view to him taking over permanently, but unless he's doing a Michael Gove, I reckon we need a manager. RE: Martin Allen has left the club - spireitematt - 02-01-2019 I can't see Cook coming back. I can't see Sheridan taking the job. Evatt has ruled himself out. John Askey would be a good shout as would Paul Hurst. Jimmy Bullard is coming to do an after dinner speaking thing at the Proact. He's managed Leatherhead. They wouldn't would they? At least we'd be in the National League North laughing. I talked to a Torquay fan this morning, his biggest worry is that Bristol City will go on a losing run and sack Lee Johnson .......... and Gary will no longer have the pick of the younger players at Bristol who are short of game time. RE: Martin Allen has left the club - Lord Snooty - 04-01-2019 Sheridan has just walked out on Carlisle. Are you having him back? RE: Martin Allen has left the club - SaltergateBorn - 04-01-2019 Well, well, well. Fancy that. Personally I`d refer not, Snoots. But I suspect we may well be. RE: Martin Allen has left the club - Devongone - 04-01-2019 Oh gawd ......... and what will he cost? What have we promised the wasp-faced drunk? Why can't we have some players instead, or a manager who knows about non-league ..... Kiwomya and Beestin are about to regret extending their loans. RE: Martin Allen has left the club - Dancingwilldoit - 04-01-2019 Noooooooooooooooooooooo please Nooooooooooooooooooooo. Just been on Radio Sheff he's about to become the highest paid manager in the lower divisions with a 3 and a half year contract. I hope its with Oldham but cant see it. There used to be a saying "Once bitten twice shy" well I'm not shy I'm bloody petrified. I assume this also heralds the return of our old friend Tommy Wright his no2 at Carlisle? How many times have we sacked him? Jesus you couldn't make it up could you. Walks out out of a job because the players wouldnt do what he said (they didnt listen) back to another club who he got the sack from 4 years ago because he claimed the players wouldn't listen !!!!! Some prick just been on radio saying we had some good times under Shez, yes we did but we also had one of the worst seasons I have ever experienced as a CFC supporter. I had a Sub for Christmas with 8 Torps of Pelforth Beer (its European Dev and its 6.8% proof) god is it going to get some hammer tonight. If we all club together maybe we could buy Sheri a massive amount of booze and just leave him to get on with killing himself. I don't see the point of an expensive manager and no players. If he could still play he'd sort out our midfield in record time ........... And if we're now going to invest in the team, why did it take us three years to notice that was needed? Just a bit of wise money spent on the team and I could keep them in the National League, I've got me pension, put me up in a good hotel and pay me travel ...... I'd do the job till May. If this means we get the crooked, much-sacked Tommy Wright back again I'm afraid that could end my fifty nine years of interest in the club. I think Popeye used to say, "I can takes so much, but I just can't takes no more!" Then he'd go for the spinach. Pass the effin' spinach. Sheridan got us playing good football and we won L2 and the JPT under him. OK we didn't stay up in L1 but that was due to a poor defence, Jack breaking his arm against Leyton Orient, Tommy being out for the majority of the season and having loanee keepers like Soderberg, Smith and Fleming (No 2 keeper) and also the fact we never replaced Craig Davies when he left to go to Barnsley. |
