I get the vibe with the whole poppy thing it's more important to be SEEN paying tribute than actually ...paying tribute.

The overriding stench of anti Irish opinion cutsright through with mcclean. Matic so far remains unabused.

Matic remains unabused because the average keyboard warrior has no knowledge of what he is referring to and was completely unaffected by whatever happened. McLean gets abuse because he is considered by the same keyboard warriors of supporting the IRA rather than the reality that the troubles had a profound impact on his life as a youngster, and even today those of us old enough to remember living through the height of the troubles in NI saw the effect that had on life in other parts of the UK through the fairly frequent and very high profile bombings by the IRA. I am not sure McLean will ever be able to convince some of these people that his motives are not pro-IRA but are anti-British military action in NI, something he vividly remembers.

The IRA "connection" is what the usual trolls focus on as well as some of his verbal "critics" inside certain footie stadia. The full explanation is far more complex and indeed there are books written re the antics of the British state on NI and the consequent animosity within the nationalist communities and support for the IRA. McLean is indeed part of that "culture" where many people have "long memories" and a sense of injustice re many issues during the worst period of The Troubles.

I think you are right there SCO.

Thing is mcclean has been clear in the past that he has no problem with honouring the fallen of the world wars, but the poppy is more than that now. If my friends and neighbours had been murdered by the british army I wouldn't particularly be keen to honour them either.

I notice mcclean has had threats made against him today, I think he is being very brave in his stance.

Have to say as well that the whole tommy robinson/hertz connection is becoming extremely dodgy. The club needs to clamp down on that shit right away.

Robinson is an absolute scumbag and he and his pals are trying to stir up sectarianism at tynecastle.
