If I had a choice between leaving the summer recruitment to Ritchie or Gary I would plump for Gary for the simple reason he has done it before .It may not come to that if we don't win another game but I really do want Caldwell to do well because he has everything about him to be a successful manager ...except for a successful team .

I think I might opt for the PFA links to make Ritchie more attractive. It's not about who IS best. It's about appearances and if Gary ended the season 1 from 19, nobody would take notice of Wigan buying promotion (even if he did a great job!)

I just hope to god we lose every game until the end of the season. Then we might stand a chance of doing something constructive for the new season and I can renew my season tickets.

The youth team lost 3-2 to Mansfield today. Wonder how many will be featured next season in the first team?
Also they've released a sneak preview of the kit for next season. Looks good but the badge is a transfer and not embroidered on.

It was officially a reserve game but it was full of youth players ,no German though,hmmmm .
Shirt looks decent what I can see of it but I never buy replica shirts ,too expensive .
Dancing if I was your missus Id be hiding your belts and shoelaces,you are clearly down in the dumps .Not that I'm offering to be your missus Im 6ft 1 and 17 st so don't look great in a dress.

Yep £40 for a shirt is too much, They should be about £15 - £20 at the most. If you go on Puma website you can get Blue jerseys for about £12-£15 then all you would have to do is get a Chesterfield badge and sow it on.

Pooch, you and Dancing would make a nice couple at 6' 1" and 6' 5". A bit of advice on how to dress is all you need.
Shirts are traditionally a rip-off. They cost about 6p to make and are individualised with the fingerprints of one of the small Bangladeshi child-slaves who sleeps under the factory benches.
You may say I'm picky but fielding an entire junior team as the reserve team disturbs me. Surely the point of that level of football is to enable them not only to play AGAINST men, but also to play ALONGSIDE a few senior players? It's great our 15 year old sub went through holding off challenges from more senior players before scoring, but how much more might he have learnt if one of last Saturday's unused subs was dictating the game in midfield?
We aren't unique in our odd attitude to player-development. A German club at our level would be giving Ricky German games. At a higher level look how much more complete a player Leroy Sane looks than English young players. Ricky looks raw, he needs muscular definition, a sprint coach might add that vital yard of pace AND he needs some game time to learn, test and improve. Anderlecht played Lukaku in European competition at 16 - Ricky might not be a Lukaku, but he's probably the nearest we'll get for a long time. In England everyone wonders what will Chelsea do if Costa leaves, will they buy back Lukaku, might they go for Griezemann ............ Bayern fans in their position would be thinking it's fine we've got Tammy Abraham, it's all profit.
Sometimes depression is the logical option. Dancing's right to be down about our prospects. He wants to able to support his team and he doesn't want to feel its future is in the hands of incompetents or sharks. Most of our youngsters won't quite make it, but hell we'd all feel a lot better if this time next season we thought we'd be at least halfway up Division Two and German, Maguire, Ofoegbu, and Rowley say had managed 30 games apiece and were all established pros. When the balance wasn't quite right, the system didn't work or a youngster made a glaring mistake the fans wouldn't like it, but they'd overlook that for the future. That would be the basis for a promotion challenge the next season, young players would see us as a club where they might get a chance and older players would see that here was somewhere their experience might be valued ........ But hey it won't be that long before I've spent 60 years hoping Chesterfield might become a proper club.

Good piece that Matt I'd agree with it except I would say that the thrashings by League Two teams were under Wilson and it would have been unlikely we would have been thrashed under Caldwell.

I agree with the whole piece. Graham Smyth is a really good journalist for the Derbyshire Times.
