A point against Russia should do you (might even take you through as runners-up if we can beat Slovakia), and that's very much do-able. ![]() Of course, if you eliminate Russia then you're also going to have Putin's bombers over Abergavenny and Llandrindod Wells within the hour, so there's that ![]() RE: EURO 2016 - GlassEyedBomber - 20-06-2016 Just going to leave this ![]() RE: EURO 2016 - drewks - 23-06-2016 Whow - what a performance by the ROI last night!! Our James McClean also looked very very good but all Irish players looked fantastic going forward and thoroughly deserved the win against a very ordinary looking Italy.....at least they were made to look ordinary by the intensity and commitment of Ireland. Just goes to show that there IS a place in international football for a more 'British' style of play - I've always thought that we shouldn't try to emulate the foreign tippy tappy style, we (British teams INCLUDING England) should play to our strengths; high energy, robust commitment and an 'old fashioned' centre forward type to aim for. Foreign teams just don't play against that style any more and, if last night's game is anything to go by, they can't settle or cope with it. Andy Carrol - where are you?? ![]() RE: EURO 2016 - talkSAFT - 23-06-2016 Shane worked his socks off last night - so did McClean. Did anyone else notice that 1/2 the N.I. team the night before DIDN'T sing "God Save The Queen". It makes Jimmy Mac seem quite normal. We should give him a break. RE: EURO 2016 - GlassEyedBomber - 26-06-2016 Proud as punch, gutted it had to be GMac but just glad we're through! Bring on an England Wales final ![]() RE: EURO 2016 - GlassEyedBomber - 28-06-2016 Oh dear lads...how could you possibly lose to Iceland? ![]() Is it really a surprise after the way you scraped through the group? RE: EURO 2016 - BaggieMan - 28-06-2016 No real surprise GEB given our struggle to create clear chances and score in group stage. Last nights performance was disgraceful from an England team - worse even than sometimes watching us. I too was surprised that the name Gareth Southgate was being banded about. He may be doing good things with the kids but I fear he isn't a strong enough a character to manage England. Eddie Howe for me. RE: EURO 2016 - talkSAFT - 28-06-2016 We're Coming Home, We're Coming Home...... another Brexit RE: EURO 2016 - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 28-06-2016 All par for the course, sadly. I've defended Roy a lot over the last four years because he was working with a team in transition, but this time the buck had to stop with him. A crop of young, enthusiastic, undoubtedly talented attacking players ended up looking like absolute plodders for all except the second forty-five minutes against Wales. Oh, and how Joe Hart continues to keep that number one shirt is beyond me, because the likes of Scott Carson and Rob Green became absolute footballing lepers after just one mistake in goal for England. Hart's doing them in every sodding match and is still the golden boy! RE: EURO 2016 - drewks - 28-06-2016 I'm as patriotic as most, and proud to be English.........however, I was surprised to find myself much more excited when Ireland qualified by beating Italy than I was when WE went through. Add to this the fact that today I haven't been sulking, and kicking the cat - I've actually found us losing to ICELAND (FFS!) quite funny. That's how thrilling I find the England team. How sad is that? ....oh, and don't get me started on Joe Hart ... |
