RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 07-02-2026 Riveting stuff right to the very end against the Yanks, who restricted us to ones after the first end and very nearly came roaring back with three (almost four) in the fifth. But at the death they made mistakes under pressure while we kept calm and carried on. Hope no one tells Trump though, he'll say the count was rigged and our players were never even there. RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - ritchiebaby - 08-02-2026 Well, the cat's really amongst the pigeons now. After GBR defeated Canada this morning by 7-5, the Canadians got all nervous and lost 6-8 to minnows Estonia. Again after losing 4-6 against GBR the good ol' USA lost 5-6 to winless Korea after an extra end. Perhaps the self-inflated ego of Korey (with a K) Dropkin is not as deflation-proof as he thinks it is. He cost USA a chance of victory against Bruce and Jen with a rush-of-blood-to-the-head shot in the final end. I'd better not say too much just now as I'm sure both Canada and USA will probably qualify and be dangerous. In the big picture, GBR have definitely qualified for the Semi-finals. Instead of having 4 teams fighting out for the other 3 places as expected, there are potentially 7 teams in with a chance of making it to the Semi-finals. All of the remaining games are important but the final session on Monday morning features Italy v USA and also Switzerland v Canada, both of which could see at least one of the favourites miss out. In other sports, Kirsty Muir has advanced to the Women's Freeski Slopestyle Final in 3rd place. RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - Lord Snooty - 08-02-2026 Oooo, in't it exciting. RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - Lord Snooty - 08-02-2026 Oh dear. Lynsey Vonn crashes out. Looks bad. RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - ritchiebaby - 09-02-2026 GBR lost their first game today by 6-7 against Switzerland after making an unusually slow start. But bounced back in another tight game against Italy by winning 9-6. They are now guaranteed to finish in 1st place for the Semi-finals. Joining them are USA who squeezed past Sweden 8-7, but Sweden's earlier win over Canada was good enough to see them qualify too. The Italians have also qualified by beating Czechia earlier. The much anticipated (by me) showdown tomorrow morning has been reduced to a competition to decide 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions for the Semi-finals, which are at 5pm tomorrow. Mia Brookes made it into tomorrow's Women's Big Air final in 3rd place. The final consists of two runs, the first at 6pm. Kirsty Muir's final is also tomorrow at 11.30am and consists of three runs. RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 09-02-2026 Dear oh dear. I really hope all the effort that went into topping the group isn't going to be for nothing. Bronze medal match against Italy tomorrow afternoon
RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - ritchiebaby - 09-02-2026 Well, what can I say? I really don't know which swear word would fit best, but suffice to say that a shocking 6th end put paid to GBR's chances of Gold or Silver. There were 4 abysmal attempts from Bruce and Jen, with only 1 half-hearted one. All the while, Sweden just kept rolling them in without any resistance. Although one end proved our undoing, nobody could argue against Sweden being easily the more composed team and thoroughly deserved their victory. To give you an idea of how bad it was in the 6th end, I think I could have made a better job than Bruce and Jen! Anyway, it's already all in the past and the 3-9 defeat with an end to play should be the kick up the backside needed to come good in the Bronze Medal game against Italy at 1pm tomorrow. United States beat Italy in the other Semi-final by 9-8 and play in the Gold Medal game at 5pm tomorrow. In other news, Kirsty Muir finished 4th by 0.41 points in her Final and Mia Brookes also finished 4th in her Final. I hope it's not catching for Bruce and Jen! RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - Lord Snooty - 10-02-2026 Peaked too soon. A bit like Frank Lampard's Coventry City. No point being 10 points clear at Christmas. RE: 2026 Winter Olympics/Paralympics - ritchiebaby - 11-02-2026 Mixed Doubles Medallists GOLD - Sweden SILVER - USA BRONZE - Italy The curse of the 4th place finish struck again. A much better performance but still struggling. However we have got to leave it behind and move on with the Men's and Women's competitions starting right away. The GBR Men's Team are Bruce Mouat Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan. They play their first game against China at 6pm tonight with a game against Sweden tomorrow at 1pm. GBR Women are Rebecca Morrison, Jennifer Dodds, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson. First up is China at 6pm tomorrow, with Korea at 1pm on Friday. I've not had time to look at the rest of Team GB's other sports, but will be back on later tonight. |
