RE: Swansea news - themaclad - 02-09-2025 Swansea City have signed Celtic striker Adam Idah for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be an initial £6m. Idah, 24, becomes the most expensive signing ever made by Swansea when not in the Premier League, with the transfer fee potentially rising to £7m. The 32-cap Republic of Ireland international has agreed a five-year contract with the Championship club. "Adam's all-round ability and his experience at the highest level make him a quality addition to our squad, and his signing is an indication of our ambitions for the club moving forward," said Swansea head coach Alan Sheehan. "He is an ambitious young player who wants to play a big role in what we are trying to build at Swansea, and his movement and ability to stretch defences will be a real asset to us." Swansea have spent the summer searching for a new centre-forward and have seen a number of targets move elsewhere. But Sheehan has eventually got his man after a fee for Idah was agreed with Celtic last week. The Scottish giants delayed the deal over the weekend before finalising Idah's departure. Centre-forward Adam Idah will wear the number 33 shirt at Swansea The Cork-born player leaves Celtic having scored 29 goals in 76 appearances across two spells in Glasgow, first while on loan in 2023-24 and then after joining for a reported fee of £9.5m last summer. Idah moved to Scotland from Norwich City, where he scored 17 goals in 116 appearances – 39 of which were starts – after coming through the club's academy. "We have wanted to add to Alan's forward options during this window and a lot of hard work has gone in to trying to find a player who was the right person and the right fit for that role," said Swansea director of football Richard Montague. "Adam has a wealth of senior experience, including at the highest level of European club competition, and we expect him to make a considerable impact for Swansea City." Idah will become a team-mate of Zan Vipotnik at Swansea after the club ruled out selling the Slovenia international. Vipotnik had been tipped to move on if Idah arrived, but is to remain in Wales having produced the best form of his Swansea career in the early part of the season. Swansea are also hoping to sign Strasbourg left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith and a winger - with Burnley's Manuel Benson among their targets - with the possibility that further deals will be confirmed on Tuesday. Swansea considered moves for Hull's Abu Kamara, who joined Getafe, and Sunderland's Patrick Roberts, who has signed for Birmingham City. Three players have left Swansea on loan, with Ollie Cooper joining Wigan, Filip Lissah moving to Falkirk and Joel Cotterill switching to Bristol Rovers. Swansea City youngster Filip Lissah has joined Scottish Premiership side Falkirk on loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. Centre-back Lissah, 20, is highly regarded at Swansea but has seen his progress hampered by injury issues. The former Chelsea academy player follows in the footsteps of Kyrell Wilson, who joined Falkirk on loan from Swansea last week. RE: Swansea news - themaclad - 09-09-2025 Swansea City have completed the loan signing of Manuel Benson from Burnley. The winger, 28, will spend the remainder of the 2025-26 season with Alan Sheehan's side. The Belgium-born Angola international's switch to the Swansea.com Stadium had been in doubt because of concerns over the paperwork involved in the deal. But the Swans have officially confirmed Benson - who will wear the number 21 shirt - has made the temporary switch to south Wales. Head coach Sheehan said: "Manuel is a very exciting player who brings a lot of quality, energy and work-rate on and off the ball. "He has Championship experience and has been a key performer at this level. We look forward to working with him and to Manuel making an impact in a Swansea shirt." It comes after the club signed striker Adam Idah from Celtic on deadline day in addition to bringing in left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith on a season-long loan from Chelsea on 2 September. Benson started his professional career with Lierse, but secured a switch to Royal Antwerp in 2019 following stints with Genk and Royal Excel Mouscron. After a loan spell with Dutch side PEC Zwolle, Benson signed for Burnley in the summer of 2022. He has made 51 appearances for the Clarets, scoring 14 goals. Having represented his native Belgium at various youth levels, Benson has gone on to win four caps for Angola at senior level, qualifying to play for the African nation through his Angolan father. Director of football Richard Montague said: "Manuel's record shows he is a player who can make things happen, and we believe his speed and creative spark can be a real asset for Swansea City. "He will add real dynamism to our play in the final third and we cannot wait for him to link up with his new teammates at Fairwood. Once we were aware this loan was a possibility we moved decisively to secure his services. RE: Swansea news - themaclad - 06-02-2026 Swansea City have signed Finland midfielder Leo Walta from Swedish club Sirius on an initial loan until the end of the season, with the deal likely to be made permanent in the summer. The Championship club say Walta, 22, will sign for an undisclosed fee on July 1, 2026 "subject to conditions". Though those conditions are not specified, the expectation is that the permanent transfer will happen. Vitor Matos had made an attacking midfield player his top priority in the final stages of the mid-season window. "We are really pleased to have Leo join Swansea City," said the Swansea head coach. "His creativity and ability to play in small spaces, the technical level he has, will help us a lot as a team." Walta, who was first linked with a move to Wales last summer, managed an impressive tally of 16 goals in 30 appearances in the 2025 Swedish top-flight season, having netted seven times in 2024. "He gives us a different kind of profile in the middle of the pitch, he can contribute goals and assists, and in his position producing those sorts of numbers always helps," Matos added. "He is versatile in terms of how he can play and contribute. He is a smart player with an ability to find the right passes and actions in the final third. "That's what we have been trying to find, now we have him and it's about working to integrate him into the team and the squad. He was in his pre-season in Sweden, so he is a different stage and it's important we give him the time to adapt, but we are very happy he is a Swansea player." Walta won the first of his 10 senior Finland caps in 2024 having represented his country at various age-grade levels. He began his club career in his homeland, at HJK Helsinki, before a spell in Norway with Nordsjaelland. Walta had loan spells with Danish club HB Koge and Mjallby in Sweden before a permanent move to Sirius in 2024. Swansea's global head of analytics and recruitment Adam Worth said Walta has "been a top target of the club for some time". "He provides a goal threat in advanced central positions, has excellent balance and vision, is a threat at dead-ball situations and provides a profile that we have been missing for some time," he added. Swansea also also looked into the possibility of signing centre-back on loan before Monday's transfer deadline, but no deal materialised. Ricardo Santos had been lined up to leave Swansea, but he is stating put and could offer Matos another defensive option. Swansea have also signed goalkeeper Joe Collins, with the 18-year-old Irishman joining up with the club's under-21 squad. |
