With Boro playing well and Norwich looking as though they have awoken as long as we keep getting resultS the other have to drop points.

RE: Play off chase - harrogatebaggie - 23-01-2023

Week 28 and a loss to Burnley who look like locked in for promotion, but there are still 18 games to play and it is the championship, so a while until the feminine person with large bones starts to warble.

We have dropped 4 places to 10th so a fleeting experience of the play off zone, however it’s all very close.

Only 1 point outside the play off spots, still with a better GD.

3 points from the top play off spot, and a better GD.

Note Millwall and Luton are back ahead of us and they have a game in hand.

Sheffield Utd are in second and are 16 points ahead, but have a transfer embargo, we will see whether this makes any difference.

So back to the fa cup 4th round, last 32, away to Bristol City next weekend. What strength team will he play? Will we have signed anyone from our feeder club, Brighton, or from anywhere else by then. Some see it as a distraction not me as it was 1968 which brought me in as a fan!

So the fa cup will always mean something to me, so I hope for a weaker side but not 11 changes. With some big clubs going out it is an opportunity for a good run.

Would love to see us in the hat for the fifth round, or even that weird shaped plastic receptacle (whatever it is called) .

The loss to Burnley wasn't the end of the world.
Still lots to play for. We will soon be back in the top 6. Sheff Utd were always our target and with 18 games to go are still catchable. We must bounce back with another run of winning games. If we aren't signing anyone we should bring back Kipre, Mowatt & Taylor.
Phillips will be out for weeks now.
Were down but not out COYB

RE: Play off chase - harrogatebaggie - 05-02-2023

A disappointing loss in the fa cup last week, was followed with an efficient win at home to Coventry. Albrighton winning man of the match, and on first viewing looks a good piece of business. Plus we are on a run with our home games, with winnable games to come.

Week 29 we are back in the playoff zone in 6th, but Millwall and Blackburn (who play Monday) have a game in hand, and could overtake us with a win.

We are 4 points from the top play off spot, middlesboro, who have played a game extra and have a 3 goal GD advantage over us.

At the top Burnley continue to be convincing, but Sheffield u only drew with Rotherham, so now boro are only 10 points behind them but played a game more, and we are 14 points behind Sheffield. Is this the start of a wobble for the blades? Is the gap starting to close? Or was it just one game? They didn’t get the business done they wanted in the transfer window. Sander Berge was not sold and they did not bring Lewis O’Brien in! They continue to be on a transfer embargo!

Just a reminder of where we have come from since CC took charge, Huddersfield and the relegation zone is 17 points behind us.

Next up the bluenoses away, another Friday night game. On paper a chance of a win, but with it being a Derby game unusual things can happen. I am sure we will all be following it!

Harrogate,
Great post, I was hoping for a win at Burnley, and that it would have caused a wobble for them, in reality I think they are too strong and are waiting for the trophy to be awarded.
The blades were always and are a more realistic target, it will still be difficult but I think they have a run of tough games against teams in and around the play offs. If their results in these games are poor a collapse could be a real possibility.
Still aiming high hoping for automatic. CoyB Thumb up Thumb up Thumb up

RE: Play off chase - harrogatebaggie - 14-02-2023

Belated update, been drowning my sorrows after the disappointment which was Birmingham City.

Week 30, losing to the bluenoses, takes us back out of the playoff zone. 2 fleeting visits and two losses.

We are 7 points off the top play off spot and 7 GD in favour of Middlesbrough. They are having a good run and have a possibility of catching Sheffield Utd., with them playing one another tomorrow, this may reduce the gap further.

We sit in 9th but only two points from 6th spot, with us having a game in hand over Watford and we have a better GD. But Millwall have a game in hand on us in 5th.

Burnley are invincible at present and Vincent Company is doing his reputation no harm.

2 big games coming up, tomorrow Blackburn at home at fortress Hawthorns, and Monday away to slaven Bilic’s Watford, hope he gets a good reception from Baggies fans as I enjoyed the season he got us promoted. 6 points and we are right back in the middle of the play off zone, nil points and we can just about forget the play offs, expect somewhere in between.

Come on CC let’s get back to winning ways with some spectacular goals. Ever hopeful.

RE: Play off chase - harrogatebaggie - 18-02-2023

Week 31, draw with Blackburn, did we deserve the win? Looks like we had the better chances.

Back into 10th and it now looks like choosing 6 out of 10 teams for the 2 automatic places, and 4 play off places. Burnley, Boro and Sheffield u are probably 3, so 3 out of 6 remain.

Still 2 points behind Watford in 6th, who have played one more than us. Plus that’s who we play next.
9 points from boro in 3rd, and they are now 7 points from Sheffield Utd, who have another hard game against Millwall this weekend.

I believe if we can get in the play offs, we have a better chance of beating Utd than boro.

However there are lots of twists and turns yet on this road, with 15 games to go.

But the next 3 are Watford, Boro and Hull, who have also put a good run of results together, so important to take points off rivals and find our mojo.

Need to get back to winning ways, which means to me means putting Wallace back on the wing, where he poses the most threat. COYB.

RE: Play off chase - harrogatebaggie - 24-02-2023

Week 32 and a loss to Watford away, mainly due an inept first half display and letting in 3 goals through mistakes we weren’t making a few weeks ago.

We are definitely missing Palmer and we looked a different side with Bartley at the back. But a few more weeks before either is back available.

Another difficult game this weekend against a flying Middlesbrough. Hope Cc has been working on a plan, a plan B and possibly a plan C.

We have dropped back a bit but still sit 10th and as I said before I can’t see anyone except these top 10 filling the top 6 promotion possible places.

Middlesbrough closing in on Sheffield Utd five points behind played a game more.

Where do we stand, We are 12 behind Middlesbrough in third but we have a game in hand. 5 points behind Luton in 6th but played the same. Luton have a 1 goal better GD.

Disappointed that our slump has come at the same time as CC has signed an improved contract, but we have been crying out for a manager for the future for many years and I still believe we have one. Especially when I have looked back on this thread as to where we have come from.

Looking forward to a good game on Saturday at 3pm and hopefully the edge is in our favour.

RE: Play off chase - harrogatebaggie - 01-03-2023

Week 33 and whilst we had a great 2-0 win against the boro. We drop 1 place to 11th due to Coventry playing there game in hand.

The next few games look easier than recent games, being, Hull, Wigan,Huddersfield and Cardiff, however unusual results always occur, so we need to not take them lightly.

Plus Wigan is our game in hand, to be played Tuesday.

We are 9 points behind 3rd but with a game in hand and we have an inferior GD.

We are 6 points behind 6th, plus the game in hand and a similar GD.

To reach the play offs I estimate we need 8 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. This would give us 74 points, which is the average needed to be 5th based on previous seasons. Think this is possible but need at least 3 wins from the next 4 games.

This weeks big games are Blackburn v Sheffield Utd and Millwall v Norwich.

I believe in CC’s managerial skills, to get us to the play offs, then it is a lottery.
