RE: Town v Watford match thread - sloppyattheback - 10-01-2015 Never saw that scoreline at HT at which point I thought we'd competed ok. Wotford always break forward well, quick passing and forwards that move into space who are technically strong. Luckily we got the break after upping the tempo noticeably 2nd half, Buttercups driven ball into the box (just as the heavens opened with blowey sleet/hale) and Wells banged in the loose ball. Smith let their man get past him at the bye line and Smithies fumbled/tumbled it to cross the line and it looked like they would take advantage, luckily they failed when Abdi I think, ran clear a few minutes later then skied it over from within the box. JV clipped home to give us a lead and from our position in the moaning section of the DGL couldnt fully appreciate Bet's overhead strike, looked like in the melee it might have come back out and got scrambled back in again but by then we were jumping around and taking the piss out of their bus load that got all cocky down the front for most of the game as most decided to exit early. In terms of team performance we looked more solid with Bet back from his own winter break, Robinson I thought was superb defended well got forward when he could, Scanz excellent early then was told to hang back by CP to match their 5 midfield ploy, then man marked Anya who came on late to match his lightning pace. Our favourite Black forestieri gateaux Diving Italian was injured sadly as no doubt he'd have punished us as he does. So yes 3 superb unexpected points, looking forward to seeing extended highlights later. Crowd was quiet till we scored really, NSL the wind was in their favour and the noise did travel north today, infact the Kilner got going too, even the DGL late on, the whole crowd and spirit was lifted and needed to be after last Saturday. CP honest in his post match with Oggy and looking forward to giving it a go at Boro but more importantly getting a result at Wigan before Beeston role into town. RE: Town v Watford match thread - theo_luddite - 10-01-2015 We play well against teams that don't park the bus and Wotfud definitely couldn't park a Mini let alone a bus. Score could have been reversed and I would not have complained. Both teams went for it and if any of our European friends watching on TV want a refund they can buy a new telly. Great game to watch, great result, Lynch's ohk worth the admission alone (OK I've a season card, so what). Come on Town fans get your backsides in gear and get down there. Great entertainment and tickets are cheap against the scrubbers if you know who to ask for one. RE: Town v Watford match thread - ARTERRIER - 11-01-2015 Well after all the doom and gloom of last week to todays great show. Really pleased with how we've played today, especially second half. We worked hard, got stuck in and got the win. Lynch's over head kick was a belter, a striker would have been proud of that one. A point next week at Boro would be belting then onto a double header against teams below us. RE: Town v Watford match thread - Amelia Chaffinch - 11-01-2015 We're more likely to beat Boro and lose to the other two. RE: Town v Watford match thread - Lord Snooty - 11-01-2015 Not having a go at the lad, because he is a Town legend, but how many more mistakes is Alex Smithies going to be allowed to make before he has to go? Apart from the clanger, he had another good match, but there are sections of the crowd who xxxx hate him. The dickheads behind us were bawling at him when he didn't come and collect when Lynch got the ball stuck under his feet. And the ironic cheers when he holds an easy one. Pathetic really. You do that kind of thing to the opposition keeper, not your own. Anyway, do we stick with him or get shut? Just seen Scotty Arfield's "wonder goal". Aye, it were good, but not compared to Joel Lynch's proper wonder goal. RE: Town v Watford match thread - EastLondonTerrier - 11-01-2015 Powell said in his post-Match snooty that smithies has saved us many times which is correct, but he seems to make clangers at crucial moments often costing us momentum or costing us points. Don't get me wrong I love the lad and have always said his shot stopping is one of the best in the league if not the best. But he has not developed in the last two years in fact he has gone backwards. His distribution kicking wise is still piss poor and sometimes very ponderous, his command of his box is still suspect and he clearly needs strong competition to consistently perform. If I'm being honest. I would take Murphy who maybe can't reach the heights of smithies calibre of saves but is less susceptible to costly errors. I do hope smithies comes on and proves me wrong as I have a lot of time for the lad. RE: Town v Watford match thread - theo_luddite - 11-01-2015 All 3 of December's FL Managers of the Month lost yesterday. Bornmuff, Sadfud and Wombledon. You sure it's not cursed Marco? Acoording to the FL paper, Vaughan scored Town's second with a glancing header. Now I know footballers are always accused of having their brains in their boots but that is a bit ridiculous. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IEk90AWTjpA RE: Town v Watford match thread - MNTerrier - 11-01-2015 been very quiet online recently for various reasons, partly been very busy the past couple of months, had house guests over christmas and i've been trying to spend less time online anyway a few of my observations from the games yesterday last week on twitter i said Vaughan and Wells couldn't play together, I was wrong , they've proved that, but that performance has to be the rule not the exception, connected to this is that Vaughan is a far better player when he actually plays and doesn't throw himself about looking for fouls. Chris Powell got everything right yesterday, Everything and deserves credit for it, this also has to be the exception not the rule. That was our best performance of the season, yes people will say the Forrest performance was better but forrest were going into a slump when we played them Watford weren't Butterfield is our best player on the field. even when you dont see him hes pulling the strings. thats the mark of real talent Performance was based on a more confident defence and more confidence in the defence, thats all down to Lynch the back 4/3 is far better with him in it, he reads everyone else well especially Hudson, and the midfield and forwards have more confidence the defence will do their job right so more likely to take some risks a year ago in the same situation if watford pull a goal back we lose that game, its a sign that the culture at the club may be changing , even if it is very slowly , patience required Gobern had a good game possibly one of his best in a town shirt , but he is not nor will he ever be Hogg.I'd still get rid of him if a half decent offer came in. the only change that needs making for the Boro game is Hogg for Gobern anyone remember who Hammill and Ward are this morning RE: Town v Watford match thread - Lord Snooty - 12-01-2015 Hammill and Ward? Estate agents? RE: Town v Watford match thread - WakeyTerrier - 12-01-2015 We did a job on Watford, whilst the result was very pleasing and the performance very encouraging I still think we can play better than we did. By the way did we start 442 and then move to a 352, Scannell certainly wasn't playing right wing back at the start of the game but seemed to drop deep into that position after a while |
