RE: WBA vs Birmingham & Swansea - Match Thread - Arcane Astral Aeons - 16-10-2021 having just got back from watching that drivel and yes it was drivel aint sugar coating it that was garbage absolutely zero up front sideways passing and when in doubt chuck a hopeful ball up top....to who? and as for the press reports blues had the better chances? bloody game were they watching RE: WBA vs Birmingham & Swansea - Match Thread - wba13 - 16-10-2021 Why oh why do fans expect us to play every week like we did against Bournemouth ,Luton for majority of match Sheff Utd and Cardiff. Without playing well in some matches we are grinding out results. Townsend, excellent, Clarke very good, Livermore very good Grant great second half and great goal. Molumby an excellent 30 min cameo . We are a good side and we have never had this many points at this stage of any season. When we get it right we’re excellent when we don’t we can usually grind out a result. But if we play football that is dreadful to watch, I'll say it. I call a square a square. Tonight was dreadful to watch. I'm happy with the win. The goal was great. But the overall standard was poor. No passing, no pattern of play, no chances created really until the end. Stoke was dreadful to watch. QPR was dreadful to watch. Darby was dreadful to watch. Millwall was dreadful to watch. Preston was dreadful to watch. We barely created chances in those games either. We won against QPR because their keeper threw one in his own net. Otherwise we drew or lost all of them. "Without playing well in some matches we are grinding out results" Yes we are and that's the exact point I was making... While we grind out results people will 'forget' how bad the game is... Because the result is paramount... But if we stop being able to grind those results out, people will quickly to get fed up of this style of play. They can put up with unattractive football if we're winning. We desperately need to replace Pereira and get a proper striker in January if we're to mount a serious title attempt. Because we simply don't have enough goals in us. We lack both a creator and finisher. There are not enough 'soft' teams in these league for us to steamroll like we did Sheffield United. RE: WBA vs Birmingham & Swansea - Match Thread - wba13 - 16-10-2021 Not having a go at anyone just pointing out there are excellent performances in there as well. As for chances created get your facts right. The only sides we hardly created chances against were Stoke and blues in the others there were loads of chances, and Derby just got lucky. Remember this is the toughest league to play in and most sides are now putting plenty of men behind the ball and booting it clear, but we are now finding ways to win. We’re top of the league already broke to records which no other baggies side has done but some are still negative. The only fact in football is the outcome. What constitutes a chance is down to interpretation. For me, a chance is a passage of play where someone is put through on goal by a pass. I don't believe we have done that often in many games. In my opinion we didn't create anything against Peterborough or Stoke. We created very little against Preston. We only turned up for the 2nd half against Millwall, QPR, Blues at home. If you think otherwise that's your opinion and it's fine but by no means is it a fact. All in all, if you only look at the table and results, it's been a wonderful season. But football is more than loading up BBC at 5pm on a Saturday and seeing the table. I'm a purist who watches every kick of the ball and forges an opinion. My opinion so far is the football is appalling to watch. As I say, I'm not blaming the manager because this is the set of players we have. What we've accumulated over the years thanks to consecutive poor windows. My expectation was that we would be mid table at best this year with this squad. Results are paramount so if they keep coming, happy days. I'll overlook the dross we're serving up as 'football' as will the rest of the fans. But my point is that you can only get away with playing this dour stuff when the results are coming. If they stop coming, the fans will want entertainment at the least. I just hope we can stay 'in the mix' between now and January and then add some bodies. Because frankly, I don't think this squad is good enough to stay up there. We're desperate for a goalscorer, a Pereira replacement and an alternative to Furlong. My personal opinion is that our current league position is quite fortuitous and largely down to the quality of the league, which must be the worst Championship I can remember for a long time due to Covid hitting everyone's pockets. But I do hope we can keep grinding the results out and I admire your glass half full attitude. But for me, I can't lie and say the football is good to watch when it's not. RE: WBA vs Birmingham & Swansea - Match Thread - Stairs - 16-10-2021 Results are critical, I understand that. But we do need to invest in the squad and we need to start showing a more clinical and controlling style of football. Attractive can follow later on. Out there “if all goes well” is promotion. If we achieve that without adding to the squad this January then there is no way, under the current ownership, that we will build a team that can survive in the greed league. Then it will be dire football without points. I am loving being top of the table. I love VI’s passion and the fact that the squad is enjoying and and seem a unit. Winning is better than losing. But over the horizon looms pain……….. Unless we come 3rd and can build for another season ![]() RE: WBA vs Birmingham & Swansea - Match Thread - Dingle-Dingle - 17-10-2021 26 Luke Moore.
