In the entire history of football, has there ever been a manager sacked from his post but retained at the same club in a less prestigious role? Sorry, but it's wishful thinking. If you've slung your hat into the ring as a head coach then it's a slap in the face to get demoted to anything else within a club; your new players/employees might sympathise, but they wouldn't truly respect you, and the whole thing would be an insult to all concerned.
The only exception is if a manager gets *promoted* to director of football or similar; but I'm far from convinced that Big Dave's talents lie in that direction.

I see what you mean, Ska'd.
It would seem to be an unusual step - a demotion in fact - and I'm not sure that BD would've accepted, say, Head of Academy.
But it would be nice to think that that, or something similar, was offered.
I'm not sure that he wouldn't be respected in the same way though. I think he just has that quality in bucket loads.

Liverpool did it all the time, Busby / Ferguson at MU PlePleat at Spirs Taylor at Watford. As long as it's handled correctly it shouldn't be a problem.

Neither Busby or Ferguson were sacked as manager, they retired at the end of an illustrious career. Busby then became a director of the club: a promotion, not a demotion.
Graham Taylor left Watford twice of his own volition, the second a theoretical retirement. He came back of his own accord years later, again as a director. They didn't have him coaching kids or scribbling press releases.
David Pleat was sacked by Spurs and had to leave. It was over ten years later when he returned... as a director of football, which again represents an overall promotion. I refer you to my previous post.

Albion are set to hold talks with experienced German manager Bruno Labbadia in the coming days.
Hamburg also have him on their shortlist so we’ll have have to be quick to get him.
He has taken Wolfsburg from 16th at the end of last season to 6th in the table this season and into the Europa League. I think that says it all about Labbadia. Funnily enough I brought him up 5 years ago in the summer that we appointed Alan Irvine. He went on to Hamburg where he kept them up via the play-offs and then took them into mid-table in the next season.
He has a good track record and did a similar job with Stuttgart from 2010 until they sacked him a couple of years later after he had taken them from relegation threatened to Europa League. Style of play is quite broad because he doesn’t just have 1 style. He likes playing with a big striker so he can play direct in addition to the possession style his teams will normally play with. He’s also fluid with systems having used 4231, 433 and 4312 with Wolfsburg.

Your correct on all points - the Liverpool guys all retired more then sacked also. Time fudges my brain now. I did genuinely think Taylor and Pleat were just moved aside to make way for fresh blood. Looks like I'm talking BS again - humble apologies I will keep taking the pills.
