Someone mentioned Graham Williams (quite right) but what about his Welsh Team mate Stuart Williams.

As I recall whichever one was in favour with the Albion at any time also got the nod for the Welsh left back spot.

Another player from that era was a Ray Wilson who played left back in the 60's although I think he was originally a winger.

I know John Wile  has correctly been mentioned but does any one remember which Club we signed him from.
If it helps, he re-joined them when his days with us were over.

And Yes talksaft, I did see them all play way back in the 60's and 70's when the Baggies were really worth watching. Angry

Ray Wilson was a cracking player, Silver. He got converted from left-winger to take over from Gray Williams. Ray must have picked up a bad injury to end his career while he was in his peak. I think it was his cross on the run which Jeff headed us into the lead in the 1970 League Cup Final.
Pretty sure we got John Wile from Peterborough (£35k).

Stanley Zebra was a good player, Beef. Like Ray Wilson he was known for his crossing. Wink

Nobody mentioned Clive Whitehead, so I will …nifty winger for Bristol City who converted to full back at Albion. His dark curly hair and tash made him the spitting image of Terry the Scouser.

By the way Gianni Zuiverloon plays for a team not far from where I live, the recently promoted Spanish second division side Cultural Leonesa.
When he plays he looks like he should still be playing at a higher level but it must be said that he seems to get injured frequently. Maybe that was his problem as he always looked like a good prospect … weren’t Man U interested in him when he was at Albion?

And finally a big thank you to Talksaft for producing this nostalgic thread of forgotten heroes and one game wonders . I’ve enjoyed it immensely Big Grin

As a finale:- there's a lovely little story told about Graham Williams.

I'm not sure what the occasion was: whether a post match drinkypoos or some sporting celebration dinner but,

Georgie Best went to brush past Graham Williams on his way to talk to someone else when Graham grabbed Georgie's arm and pulled him back.
A surprised Georgie asked indignantly why Graham had done that.

Graham replied, " because I wanted to see what you looked like; whenever I'm playing against you all I ever get to see is your arse as you go past me"

Laugh

Thanks, Bierzo.
Zuiverloon really looked the part on his debut, and for 3-4 games after that. But somehow he went downhill after that.

(Are you an ex Bank Robber, or anything interesting like that? If you are.........good on ya....Bank Robbers are very under-rated Robin Hoods. Laugh )
