West Brom appear to have beaten off competition from Newcastle United to sign Rodriguez, who is keen to move to the Midlands club.
West Brom have been attempted to sign Rodriguez for over a year, and the Baggies’ persistence is said to have impressed the attacker.
Southampton have decided that the time is right to allow Rodriguez to leave St. Mary’s, and there are not expected to be any last minute complications in the deal.
If you take his full stats for 16/17 though Beefy, its 6 in 34 which is a 1 in 5.6 games, which equates to 6.7 over a league season.

I do actually agree that he may make a very good signing, as TP certainly sees something he likes in him, he is under 40 and not a defender so must be special.
Playing devils advocate though, if a lot of his goal were from the bench,should we ask why he was on the bench in the first place?

I'd be delighted if we pay Jonny Evans 100k per week to keep him at the Hawthorns. You're right in your description of the Footballing Mad world, but that's the one we're in and, unbelievably, such a figure no longer draws gasps of incredulity. If we're having to spend that, I'd rather it was on Evans than, say, Troy Deeney who was angling for £100k+ per week according to press speculation. Evans contribution was huge last season and he was missed when unavailable

The more I think of the Rodriguez link, the more I hope it's a smokescreen.
Yes, he was good in 2013-2014 when he played next a certain Ricky Lambert, remember him? But since then he's had 2 serious injuries and barely played. He's got 5 league goals in the 3 years subsequent to that year.
I watched the Saints a lot last year (Yes, I'm one of those saddos that watches the Europa league) and he looked like a crock to me. Seemed to have either lost a few yards of pace or was scared to break into stride because of injury. Either way, he didn't look the same player.
£12m touted for a player with an average of 4 league starts per season in the past 3 years is insane. Firstly, how do we know he's even good enough when he's played so little football? Secondly, this is a lad with the track record of serious injuries and relapses. With our paper thin squad, we need players who are going to be out there on the field.
I don't doubt he's a talented player but this move has risk written all over it.
We're saying that his goals to minutes ratio is better than our 2 strikers last season as some sort of justification for a £12 fee. But is it not worrying that we're looking at stats of a player who has started 12 league games in 3 years.
He simply hasn't played enough games in the last 3 years for his stats to merit anything at all.
I'd expect anyone we're looking at to have better goalscoring stats than ours last season anyway...
Yes, Rodriguez might come in, never have another injury, recover his pace and become a revelation. I'd certainly be hoping for that if we do sign him, but I wouldn't be holding my breath. Very rarely does a player with such a track record of injury suddenly become injury free.

Mind you feel free to add to the list of players we knew were injury prone, when we signed them, including the success's, as well as the failures.
Struggling myself with a success, as I can not really count Fletch, because even though he had more an illness than injury past, he was still tried and tested, before we signed him.

I think Rodriguez has had a worse time with injuries than those mentioned. He's off the back of 3 injury ravaged seasons.
The success I can remember was Jerome Thomas. He had an injury hit year at Portsmouth before coming to us. Although one year with injuries is nothing compared to Rodriguez. Our medical team need to be on tip top form.
Just drove near to the baggies ground on the way back from work and saw a McClaren being driven towards the ground, only caught a glance but it was a white guy and the plat could've been 'JSR' or similar. Maybe he is coming for a medical or it's just a coincidence.
