But you are quite entitled to air your opinion and criticise others, as I am too. If you read my posts on this matter you will see that I am a regular critic of the Tory Government. You will also know my views on the lack of positive action at the start by all the home nations, especially in testing, and that is what has led to unnecessary loss of life, not a vote in December. That is my last word on this difference of opinion, whether or not you respond. Sturgeon has got things wrong too and when the public enquiry into this is launched she will be facing criticism, no doubt. The exit strategy is basically the 'traffic light system' Blair was talking about the other week. They've followed exactly the same route of disregarding WHO advice, veered from "wash your hands" to "stay indoors till 2021".....and of course who can forget the idiot medical officer, taking little family breaks to her coastal pad after lockdown. And even more staggering sturgeon was quite happy for the old firm game at Ibrox to go ahead until the very last minute, when football all over Europe had already stopped because of the danger of COVID. She hasn't made the monumental xxxx ups that the tories have but she's definitely made her share of mistakes as well. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - St Charles Owl - 24-04-2020 I still think the herd immunity will come back into play at some point. Whatever we think, countries cannot shut down their economies until a vaccine is developed, that could take the best part of two years, so some sort of alternative will be needed. Washing hands, using hand sanitizer, social distancing, wearing masks etc will become part of our lives for quite a while but we are likely to have to accept deaths from COVID-19 for vulnerable people for a while until the drug companies come up with something to combat this better. One thing that must be added to that narrative re Nicola Sturgeon's presentation/judgement re tackling the coronavirus crisis is that she acknowledged exactly what you are saying and that mistakes would inevitably be made in overcoming this deadly threat to the Scottish population. Check back a good number of weeks and you'll see a confirmation of that "up front" remark where she admitted that govt officials, incl herself, would reflect on inevitable mistakes and try to rectify them during such an unprecedented crisis in the political history of our nation. Re the CMO/Calderwood folly I think Jane Godley's satirical sketch really summed up Nicola's private view of being "landed" with such a ridiculous "act of folly" - absolutely hilarious but with an element of probable "private anger and frustration" attached to it. https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/celebs-tv/hilarious-new-nicola-sturgeon-spoof-18072433 Enjoy it! Btw I thought the Scot govt should never have allowed the Italy v Scotland rugby international to be staged either! Sadly I know a friend of my sister whose husband travelled to Rome to support Scotland - he is now deceased due to infection with COVID-19!!!! That was so f###### avoidable that even now I'm "raging" re that oversight!! And at the same time, somebody travelled from the same area to infect Shetland!!! ![]() https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/france-joins-denmark-and-poland-in-banning-tax-haven-firms-from-coronavirus-relief/23/04/ This is an intriguing and developing story where the British govt is being pressured to follow suit against these tax avoiding "chancers". Jim will love this story and I'll "stick my neck out" and say that the Brit govt will do nothing because these people are actually in the midst of this corrupt, lying govt and have been for a while. Their own Tory press should be forced to expose them as people who don't wanna pay tax in the same way as normal citizens and businesses do it in this country. So why should the govt assist them now using tax payers' money to do it????? While I am in broad agreement with the policy the only problem for me is the ones who will lose out in the end are the employees of these companies who will find themselves out of work and relying on state handouts. Going forward there needs to be a push to do something about tax havens but I think thats not likely either. Re the Italy v Scotland match, I personally know of two people at that match who later showed symptoms of the virus and thankfully recovered. A distant relation of mine was in Milan the same weekend and returned safely, probably more luck than good guidance. There are also cases of acquaintances who were at the Cheltenham Festival and later had virus symptoms, but had no lasting effects. These sporting events should have been cancelled right away, but again making money came long before people's health. Independently minded attendees/experts comes to mind! Its Branson who does my head in, he's scored billions out of the UK taxpayer with his forays into healthcare and rail travel, suing the NHS into the bargain. And now he wants the UK taxpayer to bail out his airline, while he sits on 4.5 billion. Delta also own half of his airline, the idea they couldn't come up with the cash between them is for the birds. All this of course while he resides in a tax haven in the carribean. No shame whatsoever. They want socialism for the billionaires but absolutely never for the plebs. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - BouncingHibees - 25-04-2020 This UK goverment was voted in for one thing and one thing only, Brexit. Anything else and they cant manage it, thousands have died at the hands of Johnson and his cronies who didnt listen to advice early enough, even now the parks and streets are rammed and the virus continues to spread, people have no faith in politicians and many no longer listen to what they are saying. The real hardliners of politics who we would listen to are gone, we now have very very incompetent fools running the UK government. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - ritchiebaby - 25-04-2020 They obviously can't even manage Brexit. I totally agree with your point about having no faith nor trust in our politicians. Listening to the repetitive waffle they spout every day, it's not likely to change anytime soon. Ritchie, One of the main reasons the governments response to this has been so cackhanded and ineffective has been because so much of their thinking and resources have been tied up preparing for a no deal Brexit. This is why Boris's cabinet is full of lightweights and Britannia unchained loon balls. It cements his power and makes sure he gets what his tax dodging backers desire. So many people have died needlessly because of this clusterfuck, I hope their precious brexit is worth it. |
