RE: 31 Aug, 2021 Transfer Window: Championship Rebuild - Zinman - 02-09-2021 (01-09-2021, 15:20)Blue Baggie Wrote: With sales and savings in wages, we have a surplus of £50 million. Assuming £2 mil for Val and £8 mil on wages for new loans and signings. Except you’ve managed to count the wage reduction twice. Any savings we’ve made in salaries is more than swallowed up by the revenue reduction. We will almost certainly not have a positive cash flow this year, nor a profit. Assuming £2 mil for Val and £8 mil on wages for new loans and signings. That's why we operate flex down, so salaries fall in line with revenue. I haven't factored in 2 lots of salary reductions at all. The players leaving were full salary savings not flex downs. I hope you accept we have a cash surplus, even if we differ on the size. RE: 31 Aug, 2021 Transfer Window: Championship Rebuild - Zinman - 02-09-2021 We may have cash in the bank now, but this will be used up in running costs by the end of the year. In very simple terms, we probably broke even last year, this year’s revenue will be about 50m lower and this year’s costs will be about 50m lower. In cash terms, one-off receipts (Periera, Field, Harper etc) will match one-off payments (VI, Grant, loan fees) so I would expect a similar break even this year. We certainly don’t have a large cash surplus just sitting there. RE: 31 Aug, 2021 Transfer Window: Championship Rebuild - Stairs - 03-09-2021 But will we dip into the ‘free agents’ to top up the squad? It's a valid sensible option. Mainly our short term loans have always come in and done a fair job. We can save our surplus funds for another day. It might be a viable option, but not for most of your new players, as a general rule free agents are fee agents for a reason. What we are doing is filling gaps on the cheap and in the process weakening any potential future Premiership team, as usual. If this team is good enough to gain promotion, how many of them would prove competitive in the Premier League? Not many meaning a large team rebuild, which in turn means with limited funds you are having to make do and the following season its back to the Championship. In order to have a chance of not yo-yo-ing, you need at IMO 75% of your championship players who would be competitive in the Prem, so on promotion you can spend what money you do have on better quality players, I am not talking about buying Kane or Messi, just players who will give you a fighting chance of survival. RE: 31 Aug, 2021 Transfer Window: Championship Rebuild - Blue Baggie - 05-09-2021 Sam has apparently not signed a new contract as yet? Reports Southampton are making enquiries about a Xmas / New year move ? Anything north of £10 million IMO let him go. Him signing a new contract has no impact on him potentially leaving in the New Year window, as long as he is protected by a suitable release clause, but it does give the club a bit of protection from loosing him for nothing next summer. |
