RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 14-04-2015 Today I had mash, beans, bacon, fish fingers and gravy. fooking beautiful doing this tomorrow http://smokebbq.co.uk/manvsfood/ RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - St Charles Owl - 14-04-2015 Aren't you a little old to be eating fish fingers??? Contrary to what you say you can't actually get fish fingers over here, the fish sticks are not the same. RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 14-04-2015 never too old for fish fingers ![]() ![]() seriously though, fish fingers are about 70p for 20 and that's why I buy them ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish_finger this says fish fingers are Americanised to fish sticks ![]() RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - St Charles Owl - 14-04-2015 Yes, I know that they get called that here but trust me they are not the same as fish fingers are in the UK. For starters they are not that cheap, the breading is very different and the fish is not the same!! RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 14-04-2015 the 70p ones are the shit tesco value crap thats minced pollock and shaped like that. If I wanted a proper fish finger made of proper cod fillet it would be about £1.50 for 10 birds eye ones RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - St Charles Owl - 14-04-2015 Used to love fish fingers, but due to them being crap over here haven't had them for ages!! Was down in LA last week and found a British shop in Santa Monica that does proper sausage rolls and pork pie!!! All of us couldn't resist that and had one of each of them each!!! RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 14-04-2015 just the one? I'd have had the shelves bare, especially if I couldn't find one anywhere near where I lived for years ![]() RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - St Charles Owl - 14-04-2015 There comes a point where you refuse to pay the silly prices though!! A large jar of marmite over here is $22, I just simply refuse to pay that, so we use the stores we know for the odd treat here and there, any more than that and I would need to remortgage my house to pay for it!! Just to add, the sausage rolls were $4 each and the pork pie was $7.50!!! RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 14-04-2015 $22 for marmite!! whats that about £15? love marmite but if I had to pay that then I'd go off it pretty quickly ![]() £3 for the big marmite 500g 3 for £1 sausage rolls at cooplands, 2 for 99p at greggs 4 melton mowbray pork pies £1.30 at sainsbury's rather be over here with reasonable prices for proper food and shit weather ![]() RE: thread to talk about anything but sport/football - St Charles Owl - 14-04-2015 Oh there is plenty of other things that make living here better!!! But yes there comes a point where once I have gone through the stock of English food that I buy when in the UK, I have to go without until my next trip back!! |
