So August 31st it is then. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (9 June) - Stairs - 09-06-2017 Bordeaux leading the race for Baggies target Ferland Mendy - no surprises there! So why does everything have to be on the basis of bargain basement and VFM. I'm not suggesting we play over the odds for players but Negredo, Huddleston, Robertson, Kone etc all played for teams that got relegated for a reason. I'm sure they're ok players but couldn't Pulis and the club set their sights slightly higher? Someone has to work with the players that are going for the "Been relegated with XXX clubs award" ![]() RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (9 June) - talkSAFT - 10-06-2017 7 Clubs vying to sign Leeds' Chris Wood, 25, for £15m. a) Interested? b) Why did we let him go? I know we probably had Odemwingie and Shane Long (or somebodyelse) at about that time, but was this one that Ashworth cocked up on? RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (9 June) - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 10-06-2017 (10-06-2017, 10:19)talkSAFT Wrote: 7 Clubs vying to sign Leeds' Chris Wood, 25, for £15m. I imagine we let him go for the same reason that Leicester let him go in 2015: he wasn't good enough for the Prem. Were we supposed to keep him knocking around for half a decade in the hope that he might come good one day? RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (9 June) - talkSAFT - 10-06-2017 You're probably right, Ska'd. But, according to The Express:- "The 25-year-old is wanted by seven clubs, with Crystal Palace, Swansea, Stoke, West Ham, West Brom and Southampton also in the mix for his signature." Speculation probably, but he looks every bit as good as Rondon anyway. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (9 June) - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 10-06-2017 If he has evolved into a Prem-quality player then fair enough, some players do bloom later in the careers; but my original point stands. If we'd spent the last four or five years loaning him out to one Championship club or another while retaining his contract, there's every chance he'd despise us for it by now. Look at George Thorne: we only did it with him for a year or two, and he had enough of it. There comes a point when players deserve to build a career of their own. As Ska'd says, he wasn't good enough, and his Leeds pal Kemar Roofe might score 30 goals next season but the same is true of him - not good for the Premier League. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (9 June) - Baggievicar - 10-06-2017 GMac off injured for Northern Ireland. How's that CB search going, Tony? I always thought Chris Wood would have had a report which said "Try's hard but could do better" His first touch was abysmal as was his heading ability. An old fashioned style centre forward but only to Championship level. Hope my assessment of him isn't proved wrong - don't like egg on my face! |
