When I was a licensee, there definitely came a noticeable point (around 2008/09) when a whole crop of eighteen-year-olds didn't actually know how to act in pubs, because the draconian ID laws and Challenge 21 stuff that had come in a few years earlier had prevented them from doing their underage drinking in a properly supervised environment. In my day, we started drinking in some pretty rough Wednesbury boozers when we were 16, and were quiet as mice the whole time because we were scared shitless. Which isn't a bad way of doing things, if you accept that teens are always going to collide headlong with alcohol at some point or another, and that it's just a case of making it a controlled collision.

I love a good pint (Timothy Taylor, Green King IPA, Marston Pedigree and Adnams) but nowadays I mainly drink wine at home as no local pub to walk to and drink drive (correctly) has put an end to travelling to a pub.
In the winter we will eat a Sunday Roast in a pub and I’ll use that as my chance for a pint.
G&T is a good thing on a hot day with lots of ice - Monkey 47, Sipsmiths are my two favoured gins.
I agree with Ska on drinking before 18 in pubs. I was darts captain in my local at 16 - we had an away match once and when we got there the captain of the apposing team was my English Teacher. A great reaction to the situation as he said, I’ll buy you a pint, you buy me a pint. We will play darts and we won’t talk about this at school. It was a man to man moment saying don’t be a prat and boast about this and I’ll treat you like an adult. Class.
I also sat at bar with landlord and took GCSE advise on sitting exams. Another decent bloke.

I'm a Moreland "Old Speckled Hen" bottle drinker, or Marston "Pedigree" with the occassional honey rum + hot crisps.

I really miss the real ale. However the US beer scene has improved with some excellent craft beers (though I’m not a fan of the over hopped IPAs). Happily I live in the middle of what I consider the best wines in the world.

I don't understand the gin thing. I hardly ever drink but I had to join in with this fad last year when I went on a girls (when I say girls I mean ladies of certain age) spa weekend. The bar had changed from the respectable hotel bar of the year before to a "Gin Bar". I had a raspberry effort and tried one of the other's gin and prosecco. Neither did it for me. If I'm going to have a drink it's a malt whiskey or a mojito if I'm being fancy.

FWIW - Glenmorangie - Glennfiddich are begginning to creep up in price now - I've been trying Aldi and Lidl brands
Glen Moray is reasonable and Glen Grant are good value for money.

Tesco frequently sell full-sized bottles of Ardmore for around £18, which is an absolute steal for such a rich Highland malt.
