RE: Cummings World Tour - Devongone - 29-05-2020 What you miss Dancing is that both men and women can be intelligent and the shittest leaders imaginable. Jeremy Corbyn is an intelligent man, but he was a fairly rubbish Labour Leader. Mrs May isn't completely stupid, but she got just about everything wrong. Winston Churchill achieved very little at school, but despite doing several things to make the working class hate him, he has gone down in history as the leader we needed. Hitler failed at everything, was even classified as the most ordinary of artists, but he changed the world, having nearly ruled it. If you lack brain power you end up doing a degree in Estate Management, you don't get to drive tutors mad studying Classics. On the other hand being able to read Ancient Greek is little use when faced with a crisis in which scientific understanding helps and decision making ability is certainly required. Intelligent men get loads of stuff wrong. Ironically Dominic is so powerful because Boris knows he himself has shortcummings. As London Mayor he surrounded himself with advisors. The trouble for Boris is that the man who is supposed to handle the problems has caused the problems ……. so how did we think he'd advise Boris to act? The thing is if Dominic Cummings is the wrong man, how many others are there like him in and around the Cabinet? Is it likely he's Boris's only wrong 'un? Their one scientist, Ms Coffey, received a public bollocking for expressing her opinions. And when choosing scientists to follow they picked Professor Ferguson whose models have been getting it massively wrong since the 1990s. And then he discovered shagging. Me, I listen to Sir David Speigelhalter to understand the stats and the risks they portray and if I wanted a sensible overall view I'd listen to Lord Sumption, who seems to be one of the clearest thinkers in public life. The science? I'd listen to anyone who advocated locally-based, decentralised track and trace. RE: Cummings World Tour - Dancingwilldoit - 07-06-2020 Interesting article today https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/coronavirus-lockdown-government-death-toll-boris-johnson-a9551516.html Even better lifted off twitter; Parody Boris Johnson @BorisJohnson_MP I first became an MP 19 years ago today. Who would have thought that a humble journalist with a talent for lying and adultery would one day go on to make his country the laughing stock of the world, ruin its economy and kill over 60,000 of its citizens? RE: Cummings World Tour - Devongone - 08-06-2020 Other than the Brexit Referendum leading to us opting for two of the least effective governments in history I don't really see any valid Brexit connection. Spain, Italy and France have all fared badly in the "crisis". That leaves only Germany as a major European player to do relatively well. For sure we didn't seem to learn the lessons from anywhere else, but that's the memory of Empire ruling our thought-processes. We always know better than Johnny Foreigner. We looked at South Korea and all we could discuss was whether their tracking and tracing was infringing the liberty of their citizens, instead of noticing how many lives they were saving and starting preparations to copy them. Deep down I think it is fairly shallow to attempt to use Covid-19 as a tool to stop Brexit, which is essentially The Independent's not-very-independent agenda. I think they should be asking questions like why are we creating a way of life that bungs old people into homes in which almost any infection will be catastrophic. Why is old age a diagnosis? Why does it disqualify the old from having a voice? And second we should be asking what is the point of the imprisoning the young and destroying the economy to supposedly protect the old, the vulnerable and the multiply-ill? Why aren't our resources directed where they are needed? We applaud our NHS to encourage its brave workers, but it urgently needs reform. It is bureaucratic and slow. We keep hearing from different bodies like Public Health England and they all have their own agendas and mimic politicians in obfuscating every answer. Social Care should not be separate from the health care system and it certainly should not be possible for local government to divert resources intended to improve matters to either other areas or their own stretched bank accounts. Boris is a brainy nit. He's played the role throughout his adult life, but hey good men don't often get to the top. Look at America, France got an under-sized banker who married his drama teacher, Hungary's got its very own maniac, Austria elects almost anything, Spain has a leader who is happy to imprison as revolutionaries those who held an election, Italy has a whole fund of potential nutters available. Suspect all those who want to wield power over others, they are one step away from dressing you in a gimp mask and sending you out to buy a new dog leash. RE: Cummings World Tour - Dancingwilldoit - 08-06-2020 Whoever or whatever leads other EU Countries is somewhat immaterial Dev. We have a Total Dick Head leading ours. The point is we have a catalog of disasters under Bonking Boris and his hand picked cabinet of numpties. Boris is proud of the way he has dealt with the virus. 60k plus deaths (the worst by far of any other EU country) should make him humble and ashamed not proud. The arrogance of him and Cummings has destroyed at a stroke any semblance of lockdown. The NHS and Care Homes still dont have enough PPE, Priti Patel (I bet Boris has had her as well) has the gall to introduce a quarantine for visitors when we have a worse infection and death rate than the whole of Europe added together but didnt think it worthwhile when things were the other way round. Hancock doesnt believe if we had locked down earlier that less people would have died??? Then we have the wonderful Mr Gove waiting in the wings. God help us all. |
