RE: To alleviate the boredom - Devongone - 18-03-2020 I'll have a go tomorrow, but I'm rubbish at these things till you tell me the answer then I knew it all along. But I really wanted to say well done Salts, those of us in solitary will need this kind of thing. I'm only 67, but an irregular heartbeat and blood pressure controlled for years by tablets is going to have me tagged and confined. I've even ordered some Wiltshire Farm Foods, though I suspect they may be the food equivalent of Werther's Originals. I suppose I'll be expected to materialise grandchildren from somewhere. Never heard of Wiltshire farm foods til i read this. Then almost immediately an advert for them comes on the telly. ![]() RE: To alleviate the boredom - Dancingwilldoit - 18-03-2020 [quote='SaltergateBorn' pid='186075' dateline='1584451991'] As some of us seem to have been placed under house arrest for the foreseeable future (I`m starting to go stir-crazy already) I`m posting this in the hope that it might provide a bit of light entertainment for a few of you. I used to organise quizzes many years ago and I once used this as a a bit of fun for the interval. I know I thought up a few of them myself (sorry!) but others I picked up from somewhere or other; long time ago now. I`ll post the answers in a week or so - or whenever I remember, whichever comes sooner. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The clues represent the name of an English or Scottish football team. Sometimes, the clues suggest the entire name, sometimes just the first word. In other words, the answer could be either ‘Plymouth’ or ‘Plymouth Argyle’, for example. For example; ‘Dogs ancestors` – Wolves 1. Luton - Sneaky 2. Preston North End 3. Crystal Palace 4. Exeter 5. Chelsea 6. Barnet 7. Brighton ? 8. Wolves 9. Spurs 10. Leicester 11. Stoke 12. Bury - you cheat SGB 13. Peterhead ? 14. Leyton Orient 15. Burton Albion 16. Chesterfield - That one took some work 17. Fulham 18. Blackpool 19. Airdrieonians 20. Berwick 21. Motherwell 22. Aston Villa 23. Sheffield Utd -? 24. Everton 25. Albion Rovers ? 26. Watford 27. Port Vale 28. Elgin City 29. Crewe 30. Reading 31. Newcastle ? 32. Swansea 33. Morecombe 34. Hartlepool 35. QPR 36. Wimbledon Thats it for now SGB but you are taking liberties with No 12 RE: To alleviate the boredom - SaltergateBorn - 18-03-2020 If you study my words carefully, Dancing, you will see I said that the clues all related to `an English or Scottish football team`, which Bury undoubtedly still are; I did not state at any point that they related to `a currently active English or Scottish football team`. If you`re going to get your boxers in a twist over Bury, you`re going to need major surgery over no.23. To be fair, I did think about changing those two. Then I thought `nah, sod it`. Still, it`s the thought that counts. Apart from that, I liked the clues; and if you`re going to quibble about their having to be currently active, your answer to no.16 barely qualifies. (It`s wrong, by the way.)
