RE: Relegation - Is it a bad thing? - Foxman_WBA - 03-12-2014 I agree with this I don’t see why were all quite so doom and gloom. Don’t get me wrong I’m fully aware that the performances haven’t been the greatest of quality but in terms of results we are pretty much right on track? I mean! Bar City we’ve played the top 6 and got 4 points! That’s 4 points more than we should be getting. I don’t know, I think we need to reset our expectation levels, we asked for a squad rebuild, we got a rebuild but now what? We want results straight away? Any team after a major squad rebuild struggles in that 1st season, happened to utd, villa, qpr bar s’ton this year I can’t remember a team that hasn’t but I really don’t think that they can sustain this level for much longer. We’re in for a long hard season no matter who’s in charge. RE: Relegation - Is it a bad thing? - BaggieMan - 03-12-2014 Being second best would be a disaster - end of. Jeez Devwakey, how far do you want to fall?? You named two league one teams and another that will be relegated this season!!! Seriously though, you need to stay up at all costs!! The competition in the championship is brutal and over the past few years few of the relegated teams have gone straight back up like they used to. Imo, the main reason for this is the complete inability of clubs to keep hold of their better players once they are relegated. It used to be a case of the best players at the club sticking around for at least a season and trying to bounce back, but the last time I think that happened was with Newcastle a few years ago. The lure of the premier league is too strong for most of the foreign players currently plying their trade up there, and they have no desire or inclination to play in the Championship!! The way the Premier league is going I would imagine you are in with about 12 other teams in simply having the goal of not being relegated with maybe a good cup run or even winning it once in a while. You know its more than likely that you will be in a relegation battle, or at least in danger of one, most seasons, and then maybe once every 4-5 years you have a great year and finish comfortably in the top 10. For me that is the reality for at least half the teams in the division. I personally hate going into a new season safe in the knowledge that we stand zero chance of winning it. What's the point ![]() You know that the likes of Southampton, Swansea etc may burn bright for a while but they won't be anywhere near the top by the end of the season. In answer to the original question, relegation would be disasterous for the club with no guarantee of coming back up - but we simply can't compete with the 'big boys'. Don't want to get too political but The Premier League is sadly a mirror of our society - no money, you're nothing. Have a nice evening ![]() RE: Relegation - Is it a bad thing? - spireitematt - 03-12-2014 West Brom won't get relegated. If you play like you did against Arsenal for the rest of the season you will finish mid-table. It's too early to talk about relegation in any league at the minute because the tables are so tight. Sometimes though getting relegated can make a team stronger. Look at Southampton they were relegated down to League 1 and have fought there way back into the Premier League and playing fantastic football with good players and a good manager. The other thing is cup competitions when you win a trophy its remembered for ever and goes down in history but finishing 17th in the League who is going to remember that? Would you rather win a trophy and get relegated? or go out all the cup competitions and avoid relegation? RE: Relegation - Is it a bad thing? - BBB - 03-12-2014 Well the odd's are shortening, because now we have one win and one draw between us and 3 places up.\ Oh dear, we need to pull our fingers out - still we have some tasty fixtures coming up, which we have to win or we in the bottom 3. To answer the question, although Championship was exciting re results etc, I still want us to remain in the Prem for many reasons, one being it'll be a gugger eo get up again - from the Championship I mean!!! ![]() RE: Relegation - Is it a bad thing? - bomberbrown1968 - 03-12-2014 Would sooner be mid table obscurity than anywhere else, and that's where we should at least be now with the squad of players at our disposal, on current form we're relegation bound, and the big question is when will we win a game again. Doesn't matter who we've played, everybody plays everybody twice, in the last 8 games we've managed 1 win & 2 draws, the last 4 - we've lost the lot!!, lots of people seem to think Hull, Villa and QPR are winnable games, I bet all 3 respective fans and managers of those teams are confidently thinking the same. RE: Relegation - Is it a bad thing? - Kookiebags - 04-12-2014 Morning All, Good point Bomber, as you rightly say, if we see a game as winnable, the opposition must surely think the same, and by now, they can see how to do it. The last teams we have played have all tried to get a lead and hang on to it, as they know we struggle to score goals, and without scoring, you can never win. AI MAY just have realised this, and things may alter, but if they do not, we are in for a long fruitless season, whether we go down or not. 24 more games like the last 4 (West Ham game was good for 45 minutes), and even the most blue and white blooded amongst us may be reaching for the rope. Cheers, Kookiebags. |
