JEEEEEEEEZZ!! (sorry, BV) RE: The Cricket - Beefy 1965 - 25-08-2019 Ben Stokes after the fall of 9th wicket: 6, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 2, 1, 6, 0, 0, 0, 6, 1, 0, 1, 2, 0, 6, 2, 1, 4, 6, 6, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 4, 4, 1, 0, 0, 6, 0, 0, 0, 4 74 runs from 42 balls Hero https://t.co/gWxvutJ2g2 RE: The Cricket - drewks - 25-08-2019 The way Stokes kept on going, and 'managing' the situation from a hopeless position was amazing. A once in a lifetime sort of game - even more incredible, IMHO, than Ian Botham's heroics in 81. England must've been, what, 500-1 against winning at 4.00....in a 2 horse race?! NEVER GIVE UP, sportsmen/women! Botham 81 [and Bob], Freddie 05 and now Stokes RE: The Cricket - Amelia Chaffinch - 25-08-2019 https://www.sportsbabble.co.uk/thread-8643.html ![]() RE: The Cricket - talkSAFT - 26-08-2019 Don't remember feeling THAT excited in '68 ......and that was with Radio commentary! (Watched Channel 5 highlights twice last night.) Even my Mrs (who can't be bothered with Cricket) got the champagne iced, and drank to Stokesy. RE: The Cricket - BaggieSteve - 26-08-2019 I was lucky enough to be at the first day last Thursday at Headingley. At the close of play , we were all pretty happy. Travelling back on Friday, I was in despair. Yesterday went from hope to despair to euphoria...Ben Stokes, what a player, I can’t recall a more superbly managed innings, from determined defence to destructive hitting (not slogging). Big up to Jack Leach as well, a more significant 1 not out you’ll struggle to find ![]() RE: The Cricket - Baggiebob(BBB) - 26-08-2019 When everyone had been outside in the sun, I had inside listened to the game, and from thinking in the morning we had a chance of winning to then lost a lot of wickets, when Leach came in, and the Stoksie started hammering the ball in a last ditch effort to win, everyone who kept hearing me shout 'Yes' had come in to listen to the last 20 balls, and like me were nervously counting down the numbers, and after nearly having a heart attack at Leach nearly being run out, and that dropped catch, when he scored those last runs i was wet with exhaustion and euphoria - what a win - what an innings. ![]() ![]() Here's to you Stokes, an MBE will follow. ![]() ![]() |
