RE: Summer Friendly thread 2019 - themaclad - 11-07-2019 ![]() ![]() ![]() AFC Fylde v Preston North End 13/7/2019 Mill Farm A.F.C. Fylde is a professional football club based in Wesham in the Borough of Fylde, Lancashire, England. Originally known as Kirkham & Wesham following a merger of Kirkham Town and Wesham in 1988, the club adopted its current name in 2008 after winning the FA Vase. They are currently members of the National League, the fifth tier of English football, and play at Mill Farm in Wesham. They are the first and so far only club to win both the FA Vase and the FA Trophy. We travel a short distance down the M55 to AFC Fylde for the second season in succession to play the home side who almost made it into the Football League but lost 3-0 to that traditional of all non league clubs Salford City at Wembley a week later they beat Leyton Orient 1-0 in the Trophy final in what was Justin Edinburgh's last match as Orient manager before his untimely death. Fylde have progressed all the way through the lower leagues by the single fact they have thrown money at it, however the main reason for Fylde's existance is to be found around the extremes of the ground in the retail area that has sprung up, canny man is their owner. They hope to be in the league by 2022. RE: Summer Friendly thread 2019 - themaclad - 12-07-2019 The Lilywhites return to action back in England following their tour to Ireland, with a friendly much closer to home against AFC Fylde at Mill Farm on Saturday afternoon. The game, the third of the 2019/20 pre-season, sees Alex Neil’s men step up their preparations as they take on Dave Challinor’s 2019 FA Trophy winners in a 3pm kick-off. The game is likely to see the return to action of forward Sean Maguire , who was given an extra week off during the summer due to his exertions with Ireland. Josh Harrop, who was withdrawn early from Monday’s win at Cork City, has been able to train with no issues in the days since the game and is expected to continue his return from ten months out with his knee injury. The hosts, after reaching the National League Play-Off Final and winning the Trophy at Wembley, have been active in the transfer market over the summer, in the hope of going one better this season and having beaten Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night, will be a good test for PNE on their return from the training camp. This is North End’s second trip to Fylde; the aforementioned Maguire having grabbed a hat-trick in the previous friendly last summer and he will look to hit the ground running on his return to action. For those wanting to head down and support the boys, seated tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £7 for U16s, with standing tickets priced at £10 for adults and £5 for U16s. RE: Summer Friendly thread 2019 - themaclad - 13-07-2019 Won 4 -0 at Fylde Maguire 3 and Bodin RE: Summer Friendly thread 2019 - themaclad - 15-07-2019 ![]() ![]() Chorley v Preston North End ![]() Victory Park Chorley Football Club is a football club based in Chorley, Lancashire, England. The club competes in the National League, the fifth tier of English football. The club was founded as a rugby union club in 1875 but switched to football in 1883. They have reached the FA Cup second round twice, in 1986–87 and 1990–91. Their best performance in the FA Trophy was in 1995–96 when they reached the semi-finals. The club's home colours are black and white stripes, hence the nickname The Magpies.[1] Chorley v Preston North End Match Preview The Lilywhites return to Victory Park on Tuesday evening for the first time in three seasons, as they face the recently promoted Magpies. It’s the second game against National League opposition in the space of a three days, after defeating AFC Fylde 4-0 at Mill Farm at the weekend, Sean Maguire on hand with a hat-trick and Billy Bodin grabbing the other goal. It’s a 7pm kick-off for the game, as Alex Neil is expected to give 60 minutes to those that played 30 minutes against the Coasters and vice versa, with Maguire set for his second run out of pre-season. The manager revealed on Saturday that Brad Potts should be fit to return to action for this coming weekend’s clash with Southampton at Deepdale after an injection, whilst Darnell Fisher is closing in on a return to training after dealing with a groin issue. For the hosts, they had a good win at Longridge Town on Saturday, also 4-0, with former North End striker Chris Holroyd making his debut for Jamie Vermiglio’s side. Tickets for trip to PR7 are priced at £7.50 for adults, £5 for those aged 12 to 16, and free for U12s. Tickets will be available on the night at Victory Park. ![]() ![]() Longridge Town v Preston North End XI ![]() Mike Riding Ground The club was established in 1996 by a merger of Longridge St Wilfred's and Longridge United.[2] They started in the Preston & District League and were Division Three champions in 2003–04. Subsequent promotions saw the club reach the Premier Division, and a third-place finish in 2007–08 led to them joining Division Two of the West Lancashire League in 2008.[2][3] They finished as runners-up in their first season in the division, earning promotion to Division One.[3] The 2011–12 season saw the club win the Division One title, resulting in promotion to the Premier Division.[3] In 2016–17 they were Premier Division champions. Following a third-place finish the following season, the club moved up to Division One North of the North West Counties League. The clubs first season in Division One North of the North West Counties League saw them go on to win the league on the last day of the season ahead of Avro F.C.. With becoming league champions, the club also got promotion to North West Counties League Premier Division at the first attempt. MACS VIEW Two games at the same time the one at Longridge is a developmental side probably full of youngsters, the Chorley game will be first teamers. Having spent many years freezing to death at Victory Park will give it a miss. Have seen a couple of epic games at Victory Park, a 5-4 win over Wigan in an NPL cup match circa 1968 plus a three game epic against Wimbledon which ended with Chorley winning the third game 2-0 at Fellows Park, Walsall both the aforementioned games attracted gates of 6000. Never been on Longridge RE: Summer Friendly thread 2019 - themaclad - 16-07-2019 Won 2-0 at Chorley Browne and Burke and last I heard other side were 4-0 up at half time at Longridge Won 4-2 at Longridge O’Reilly 2 Simpson and Walker RE: Summer Friendly thread 2019 - themaclad - 17-07-2019 Chorley 0 Preston North End 2 Alex Neil’s Preston North End made it four straight wins in pre-season, with second half goals from Irishmen Alan Browne and Graham Burke giving the Lilywhites a 2-0 win over a spirited Chorley side. Jamie Vermiglio’s recently promoted National League outfit put on a good display, particularly before half-time, when they hit the woodwork and saw a goal disallowed, but after the hour mark the visitors put their foot on the gas and made it 10-0 across the four 90 minutes played so far. The opener, immediately after the manager had made ten outfield changes, came as a throw in on the left was headed down by Sean Maguire into the path of Burke, whose in turn laid in Browne, who curled a superb shot around a defender into the right corner of the goal. And it was 2-0 with 12 minutes to go as Maguire was again involved, with a clever and perfectly weighted through ball for Burke to run onto. He took an excellent first touch before coolly placing the ball past Danny Eccles in the Magpies’ goal. Once again the manager chose to give half his squad 60 minutes and the opening team started brightly, with a Johnson corner headed back into the mixer by Josh Earl at the back post; Josh Harrop then finding Jayden Stockley who checked inside onto his left foot 18 yards out, but Eccles did well to hold onto the striker’s effort. Mid-way through the first half and Chorley trialist Louis Dodds was close to the opener, finding the right-hand post from 20 yards out. And Victory Park thought it had seen an opener with seven minutes to go before the interval, when Josh O’Keefe hit the same post that Dodds had earlier found only for former PNE forward Chris Holroyd to fire home from close range, but the assistant’s flag was already up before the ball found the net. After the break the better chances went the way of North End, Earl’s cross from the left was headed just over by Louis Moult four minutes in and then Stockley hit the opposite post to that Chorley had twice hit in the earlier half, Johnson and Moult exchanging a one-two before the former found the No.20, who diverted it against the upright. On the hour mark the ten outfield players were changed and within 30 seconds PNE went in front. Andrew Hughes took a throw in on the left mid-way inside the home half and Maguire played in down into the path of Burke. He then played the ball into the stride path of the third Irish international in the move, with Browne curling the ball beautifully around the centre half and into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Burke looked bright after his introduction and forced a fine save from Eccles with a left-foot pile-driver from 30 yards, the keeper tipping the ball over the bar for a corner. Josh Ginnelly put over an excellent ball from the right, with a quarter of an hour to go, that found Hughes overlapping on the left, but his first time effort wasn’t quite controlled and he could only find the side-netting. The second and final goal came with 12 minutes left. Referee Leigh Doughty did well to play on after a foul on Patrick Bauer, and the ball was played forward to Maguire out on the right touchline on half-way. The No.24 controlled the ball with his first touch and then perfectly weighted a ball inside the Magpies last man for Burke to run onto, controlling superbly with his first touch and then placing the ball into the bottom right hand corner to complete the scoring and give the Lilywhites another win and their fourth clean sheet of their 2019/20 preparations.
