RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - Lord Snooty - 30-04-2019 All this could've been avoided had the liner had stuck his flag up. The Leeds goalscorer was a yard offside. ![]() Many years ago at Vale Park, the Town keeper threw the ball out to touch when one of our players was down. Can't remember who the players were but one of theirs intercepted the throw took it around the stricken Town defender and scored. We went potty. But nobody gave us a walk through goal. I reckon there should be some kind of directive stopping players from doing this, I mean stopping play. It should be up to the ref. Villa were aggrieved because they'd put the ball out for Leeds a few minutes earlier. Take control referee. You get paid to make these decisions! RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - theo_luddite - 30-04-2019 Players can be booked for ungenitalmanly conduct - e.g. continuing to play/score after the ref blows his whistle for offside, kicking the ball into Row Z just to waste time, keeper takes too long to kick a dead ball back into play, etc., etc. Strange that the ref apparently can't stop play though when it's happening in a slightly different form right in front of his eyes.
Yes he has to be able to differentiate between a diver trying to take the piss and a genuine injury, however it was the bell end with the flag at Bellend Road that apparently saw the "punch" that floored Bamford and got the Villa player wrongly sent off. Will he be sent to Specsavers for an hour or two of eye tests? Will he 'eckerslike. Meanwhile - heading into the play-off's it's not hard to see who is the form side (sorry Baggies) and who is "falling apart again" is it? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - Devongone - 01-05-2019 If a GAME is played in the proper spirit you should hardly need or see a referee. What football has created is an essentially REFEREED game, in which the referee is in permanent capital letters, at the centre of everything, responsible for everything, blamed for the shortcomings and cheating of everyone on and off the field of PLAY (that's play remember, not war, not politics, not natural disaster - PLAY). And in the background the ref and his/her assistants are "encouraged" by a partisan crowd of thousands ever-willing loudly to signal its disapproval. If the Leeds defender had not feinted to put the ball out before playing a pass ...... if the forward had not seized the chance to score rather than stop play ...... if Patrick Bamford had stepped back and smiled at his furious opponent ........ if his opponent had not been so keen to demonstrate to the world how angry he could become ........ if the ground hadn't been packed with spectators .......... if it hadn't been an important game ............ and if it had all been happening in slow-motion with action replays ......... But the world is not like that. All we've a right to ask of officials is neutrality, honesty and that they are familiar with the rules of the game. We can't demand perfection or we'll need officials scattered around the pitch like American Football throwing down flags so that endless replays can adjudicate what actually happened. YET in the real world we'll happily rely on the testimony of an untrained eye-witness to put someone in prison for the rest of their lives ..... so what's so bad about sucking it up like grown-ups, PLAYING the GAME and thanking the officials for allowing the match to take place and doing their imperfect best? RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - theo_luddite - 01-05-2019 We have done all season Devon - that's one reason why we're bottom of the league and one of the reasons why Wagner decided he'd had enough. At their imperfect best they are bloody useless full time so called professionals and at their worst they are as biased as they come. That and our forwards couldn't score in the local red light district brothel (the new chap Karlan Grant excepted) even when it's laid (layed?
![]() PS - how come everything is suddenly auto-aligned to centre (sorry Center, 'kin Yanks ![]() PPS - haven't seen an email notification from this site for ages. Gone from slow, to takes about a day to non-existent in a few short weeks. They prefer not to because you get a lot of glitches with each new version, like these centering and navigation problems. However, they have decided we're better with that than the hours we've been unable to get on site. They are constantly trying to make it better. RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - theo_luddite - 01-05-2019 Fair do's AmChaff. ![]() I'll take that offer for now. Nowt worse than it going all arse over apex halfway through writing an unsaved match thread. The text centering on the page has gone away for me, no idea why!! Also, while its a pain to not be able to scroll back to the top of the thread to find todays posts, I am fining it easy enough to go to the bottom left of the page, click on where it says Sports Babble, that takes you to the home page where you can then go anywhere from. RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - Amelia Chaffinch - 01-05-2019 That's what I have been doing, too. RE: Bielsa has just made himself public enemy number 1 at the big yellow skip .... - Devongone - 02-05-2019 Theo mate, much as I like Huddersfield, you went down because you didn't invest enough of your "hard" - earned on the field of play wisely. Wagner found you cheap, good-quality imports to get you up and keep you there, but you needed tough defenders and a proper keeper for a start. It is something of an indictment that Karlan Ahearne Grant has been a notable success for you, considering that only last season Charlton Athletic loaned him out to help in Division Two's conspiracy to relegate Chesterfield. Second season up you have to be considerably better and wiser than first season and sadly you weren't. There might be one genuinely biased ref' in the league but most biases are unconscious. Refs like teachers tend to favour the successful. If you are Man City, collect a gold star and a series easily-won of free kicks and penalties ......... If you're Billy Bunter, bend over. But you've got next season. You're in the Championship with a chance. Try being in the National League and see how you feel when you are on the wrong end of honestly-made dodgy decisions. People are crap at making decisions. Where did I learn that? Doing at Masters in it at Huddersfield University. Queensgate ahoy!
