RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - bluepooch - 18-07-2018 Who have Salford signed of note ? I havent really been keeping up ? I noticed they signed some guy from Peterborough and everyone was going wow !. They remind me of Mansfield last season ,spending head and shoulders above everyone else . RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - spireitematt - 18-07-2018 This is there squad. Max Crocombe Chris Neal Josh Askew Liam Hogan (Captain) James Jones Danny Livesey Carl Piergianni Nathan Pond Ibou Touray Scott Wiseman Kieran Glynn Nick Haughton Ashley Hemmings Jake Lawlor Danny Lloyd Augustin Mafuta Lois Maynard Mark Shelton Tom Walker Danny Whitehead Jake Beesley Emmanuel Dieseruvwe Anthony Dudley Rory Gaffney Jack Redshaw Devante Rodney Adam Rooney is on the verge of signing for them as well. RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - bluepooch - 18-07-2018 This sheer size of that squad in this league will just make the managers job more difficult ,how does he pick his best 11 from that lot ? and because there are only 16 players used on matchdays it means 11 will have no say .Its madness ! RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - Dancingwilldoit - 19-07-2018 Wondered where Beesley had ended up. There will be quite a few ex Spireites in their squad if Rooney does sign. RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - Devongone - 19-07-2018 Jake Beesley and Emmanuel Dieseruvwe struggled to get on the field when the squad was weaker, so I don't think they'll get to revisit the Proact, specially now Adam Rooney has signed. Whilst I think our squad of players, that we actually want, is too small, like Pooch I think Salford's is too big and you should also take into account that they have really struggled to get up to this level. Even last season I think most people would have said Harrogate was the better side. James Jones is the signing I envy. He is young and still improving ....... but a signing from the Posh, who do bring in and get rid of a lot of players each year? It isn't hard to find a Peterborough player looking for a club, which is why I kept saying we should grab Ricky Miller. Certainly Salford have got ambition, but I do think our signing of Lee Shaw exemplifies the kind of player more likely to help you out of the Vanarama than a Nathan Pond or a Scott Wiseman. Danny Lloyd does know non-league but you have to be suspicious of a player who at 26 drops out of the league for a nice three-year contract. When a team, like ours, drops down two levels for purely financial reasons we rightly suspect its ambition ....... so when the going gets tough is Danny Lloyd going to be fighting for the ball or nursing his three-year contract? RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - spireitematt - 19-07-2018 Rumour has it a lot of the bigger signings are on £4k-£5k a week. RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - Devongone - 19-07-2018 Pay tends to be the most accurate predictor of success. But Macclesfield won this race last year and could barely cover pay-day at the end of the month. 2006–2008 Stoke City 15 (4) 2007 → Yeovil Town (loan) 3 (0) 2007–2008 → Chesterfield (loan) 22 (6) 2008 → Bury (loan) 16 (3) 2008–2011 Inverness Caledonian Thistle 103 (44) 2011–2013 Birmingham City 18 (4) 2012–2013 → Swindon Town (loan) 29 (9) 2013–2014 Oldham Athletic 24 (4) 2014-2018 Aberdeen 151 (66) Just thought I'd post Adam Rooney's appearances - goals ratio. He has only been prolific in Scotland. What this says about his VandyPandy prospects I'm not sure. But I wouldn't have thought signing him ought to make Salford 3/1 for the title. RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - Dancingwilldoit - 20-07-2018 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44894821 Interesting. I agree with Accringtons chairman. RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - Devongone - 20-07-2018 Things change. I'm not sure the Manchester area needs another EFL club though. If Salford achieve league status and drag in crowds sufficient to justify that ........ where were those supporters before? Are they new fans of football? Were they fans of other clubs like Oldham sliding slowly down the pan? Are they there for the full trip, or will they get off first stop? Will the community be behind them in the way that it isn't quite at the moment? And if a large community like Salford wanted its own EFL club, why didn't it get one before now? And more important if we are asking whether the fans are there for the long-haul, how about the owners? Did they simply watch The Field of Dreams one time too many? Of course they are trying to buy their way into the League, but Liverpool are trying to buy their way to the Premier title, as did Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd ......... why hassle Salford, just because they look as though they might succeed? RE: Why are we bothering about Trump - bluepooch - 20-07-2018 To be fair Neville is right, they are putting money in just the same as Andy Holt is putting money in .Neither club would be where they are if the had to rely on gate receipts .This is why football can appear to be so unfair .The owners get round the fairplay rules and get to plough their millions into their 'plaything '.Its great for the respective fans but its pot luck which club gets lucky and gets picked by these fatcats .Its certainly not a level playing field and never will be again until the rules are changed somehow.Bring back the good old days (except for the ploughed field for pitches of course ) when the likes of Luton and Ipswich could reach the summit . |
