Sounds as though we weren't up for it. I'm not a believer in bogey teams, but Aberdeen have got us where they want us (except for Cup games). Let's hope Lennon gets tore into the team this week. We were truly abysmal ritchie,we need to get our shit together before the derby game because hertz will be flying the now. RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - 0762 - 18-12-2017 I think we should prepare/train for that match on a shit training pitch because one thing I observed in the Sportscene highlights re that Tynecastle pitch yesterday was the alarming condition of the surface. Watch the video highlights again and study the 'roll of the ball' on the surface of that pitch - it looks like it is in a shocking condition with the ball 'kicking up' consistently all over the pitch. It looks like the regular dampness and freezing conditions have 'taken their toll' on this pitch AGAIN at this time of year! I'm loving all this comment from hertz fans about how they did this amazing tactic on celtic... their game was 90% lump it up to that donkey laugherty who was allowed to bully the cellick CBs. Cellick played utter shite throughout their team and weren't beaten by some tactical genius from potter. I'm expecting the same kind of tactics and (deliberate) state of the pitch when we go to the PBS. RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - 0762 - 18-12-2017 I think there should be some kinda mandatory fine/penalty set up in the SPFL regs re this issue. We keep classifying the Scot Premiership as our 'top league' and I think member clubs should be prompted to provide a 'minimum standard' of pitch provision that satisfies the acceptable footie requirements of said top league! This should also cover an artificial footie surface as well esp after watching the weekend footie shenanigans at Hamilton's ground, some of them laughable (incl the awful refereeing!), where players were clearly slipping on a greasy or icy surface and the stupid referee not interpreting a proper 'foul' under such circumstances!! ![]() ![]() RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - 1Wattie - 18-12-2017 The big problem with playing surfaces nowadays is that nobody has the patience to sow a pitches properly. It`s easier and less time consuming to bring in lorry loads of pre sown turf and kid on it gives a true playing surface. We`ve seen it in several grounds, especially Hampden, when the surface is re-laid a few days before an important game. Look at the surface after the game and it`s like a plowed field. With the temperatures forecast over the next week there is no chance that the pitch will get the chance to recover from yesterday so a trying time is in store for our players. If we manage a draw it will be a satisfactory evenings work. I think thats fine in theory but in practice all sorts of things go into keeping a pitch in good shape. Also, what would be the minimum standard, how would that be measured equally? One club might have a stand that shades most of the pitch at this time of year, making it almost impossible for the grass to grow let alone recover from a match. Some grounds have naturally good drainage, others don't, games get played after a lot of rain in one half of a city, but the team in the other half get a few more days for the water to drain as they are away from home in the match after or during the rain. There are too many variables for each pitch to try to set a standard unless the league insists on every team installing a Desso type pitch, which will cost at least 1m quid like it did for us or they have to heavily rely on growing lamps that cost a fortune to run and would likely need to be on for 24 hrs a day. Either way while teams like the top 6 or so could potentially afford it, the rest would be bankrupted by that sort of expenditure. Its December in Scotland, the likelihood is the pitches will be suffering to varying degrees at every ground. RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - hibeejim21 - 19-12-2017 It's up to the clubs concerned if they want to maintain a pitch like a tattie field and if they can't afford to produce a good one then something has to be done at SFA level. I totally get that. But just don't go xxxx moaning about the quality of football in scotland afterwards. Which in my experience fans of these clubs are want to do. RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - 0762 - 19-12-2017 The use of 'growing lamps' was one technique that 'came to mind'. I'm an avid gardener and I reckon that there are techniques that can be used to overcome some of the probs but 'skimping footie clubs' will not use them - there are a lotta them in Scotland btw! I also 'don't buy' the argument that the shit condition of a footie pitch is the same for both teams - it is a 'lottery', pure n simple, and some form of min standard should be set esp when these games are attracting a decent attendance in a so called 'top league match'. Throw in some biased or extremely incompetent ref officials and you have a 'lethal cocktail' to affect a footie match very badly!!! In fact, I'd go further and ask, 'Are we really that serious re our footie up here when one considers issues like this one'??? I don't think so in a league where Celtic are 'light years' away from any other serious challenge to their monopoly and, as Jim has just mentioned, look at the quality of some of these Scottish matches - some of the antics on the pitch remind me of frenetic scenes in schools' matches but in these games I'm watching kids learning how to play footie!!! Pro footie players have no excuse!! RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - hibeejim21 - 23-12-2017 Hibernian full-back Lewis Stevenson admits he hid on the team bus to avoid angry boss Neil Lennon in the wake of the club's defeat by Aberdeen. ![]() ![]() ![]() That made me laugh. RE: Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm - 0762 - 23-12-2017 Great to hear that story and that we do indeed have a manager who does not take too kindly to losing at the best of times, let alone losing due to sheer negligence! |
