Congratulations to the Scottish Junior Women who finished unbeaten for the whole competition, winning the Gold Medal.
The Scottish curling website STILL hasn't caught up with the fact that a Scottish team has won the Gold Medal - or even started playing the competition - at a World Championship event (Mr Angry e-mail on it's way to them) but I have tracked down a photo of three Scots enjoying themselves on the ice.

The updated 2017 Women’s championship countries (and by country I don't mean a sovereign state and a member of the United Nations in it's own right) are now defending champions Canada, Hungary, Japan, hosts Korea, Russia, Scotland, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey and USA.
The Men’s teams are for WJCC 2017 are Canada, China, Italy, hosts Korea, Norway, defending champions Scotland, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey and USA.
In common with many other sports, the host country gets an automatic entry into the championship, but it means that a comparatively strong country is denied a place on merit. It rankles a bit with me, but as there's no chance of reversing it, who cares.
If I was the 10th ranked country, I would not be pleased at all.More photos from the WCF Facebook page.

Here we are again, happy as can be, all good friends and jolly good company - waiting for the start of the World Juniors. Only Scotland from the home nations have qualified for these Championships which are being held "Gangneung style" in the Republic of Korea.

The competition starts tomorrow, 16 February, and the round robin will be completed on Thursday 23 February. The play-off games will be on Friday 24 February with the Semi-finals and the Womens' Medal Games on Saturday 25 February. The Mens' Medal Games will be played on Saturday 26 February.
The Scottish Womens' team is alternate - Laura Barr, lead - Sophie Sinclair, second - Mili Smith, third - Naomi Brown and Sophie Jackson (Skip).

Cameron and Sophie have already won Bronze in the World Mixed Curling Championships at Kazan, Russia in October 2016, so they are well used to international curling success.
Tomorrow is the first of the round robin games with Scotland Women playing Korea (2016 Bronze medallists) in the morning and Hungary at night. The Scottish Men play USA in the afternoon.

The Scottish Women got off to a solid, if unspectacular, start with wins over Korea by 7-6 and Hungary by 8-7. However the Men lost to USA by 6-7 after an extra end. Considering Scotland were 4 down with 3 ends to play, they did well to force an extra end.
In tomorrow's games the Women play Turkey and the Men play Norway.

The Scottish Women have now won thrice (where's Worthing when you need him?) with a secure win over Turkey by 10 shots to 5 after the Scots were 7-0 up after 3 ends.
The Men repeated their result from yesterday, losing by 1 shot to Norway. They were 1-6 down after 3 ends and did very well to take the game to the last stone.
Both teams take on their Swedish counterparts in tomorrow's games.

The Scottish Men gained their first win today with a strong performance and an 8-6 victory over Sweden. This time Scotland started well, being 7-3 up after 7 ends and held off a Swedish fightback with a bit to spare.
The Women went about things rather differently and were behind from the fifth end onwards until the last stone for a dramatic 6-5 win, also over Sweden. The Scots now have 4 wins out of 4 and head the table.
Tomorrow again sees a double header, this time against Switzerland.

The Scottish Men again came good in a very tight game against Switzerland with an extra end win by 8-7, going all the way to the last stone. They now have 2 wins and 2 defeats to lie in mid-table and meet China in tomorrow's game.
The Scottish Women suffered their first defeat by 7-8 against Switzerland. The lead changed hands six times in a nip and tuck game, again being won with the last stone. Scotland have 4 wins and 1 defeat to lie first equal with Canada and Sweden and they will face Japan in the opening session tomorrow.
