I get that money and TV rules the game now but I cannot see any real monetary benefit to having Chelsea play in black?? Surely the way to sell the PL abroad to foreign markets and their untapped shirt sales potential, then Chelsea would be better wearing their home kit as often as possible. If you go in the sports shops over here you can get US sports teams away/alternative kits, but the PL shirts on sale are all the home kits, never the away one. RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - themaclad - 20-11-2016 Sadly the same happens at non league level, North End have three kits, a second blue one which is rarely worn and a yellow one, money is the curse of the game and if TV companies ever go pop the fall out will be immense RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - St Charles Owl - 20-11-2016 Yes we have three kits as well, black & orange, and an all white one. I actually don't see money as being the curse of the game, the curse is the power that certain clubs, owner and tv companies have, not the moeny they produce. Yes if the money from sky disappeared it would severely hurt, but most clubs would be fine as the foreign revenue can keep them running and the owners of nearly all PL clubs are uber rich!! As for the rest of us, we we see virtually none of that money anyway, so we would be back to relying on ticket sales, naming rights, commercial activities and sales of away kits!!! Of course there would be casualties but not on a wholesale scale. RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - themaclad - 20-11-2016 Ticket prices that's another being between 60 and 65 occasionally get concessions £13 at Rotherham just paid £33 to visit somewhere in SW Yorkshire a week on Saturday can't remember which ground it is though!!! Foreign owners you take a chance with, yours seem stable however on the flip side you have the likes of Charlton, Orient, Morecambe and to a lesser extent Leeds this season, used to be a game for the working class them days are long since gone and I'm not sure why get the game is better for it these days RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - St Charles Owl - 20-11-2016 Yes our ticket prices are not great but I will defend what Chansiri is doing. We want PL football, he has pumped money into the club to do that and he seems prepared to push FFP as close as he can to help achieve that. But without higher crowds that are paying more money it won't be enough just to rely on him, we simply cannot compete with the PL parachute money. So its the fans that have to stump up some extra cash if we want to have a chance of promotion. Our commercial side is poor as well, has been for years but he is slowly getting that sorted as well. I don't think he is a chairman who will screw the fans on prices, but until we get to the prem he needs to absolutely maximize that revenue stream. As regards the game, the PL is as good a league as it has ever been. The football is good, the players are good quality with a few world class ones in there and the grounds are full but the best thing about it now is the fact that 6/7 teams have a chance of winning it, it is a league that is competitive from top to bottom and that is rare in world football these days. But, the money is all up there, none trickles down and the England team suffers from all the mediocre foreign players being brought in. Brexit may actually help the England team ironically!!! RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - themaclad - 20-11-2016 Yep could be worse could be the Scottish League RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - themaclad - 23-11-2016 Back on the poppy theme, apparently Wales are being charged because supporters in the crowd were wearing poppies, bizarre if true RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - themaclad - 29-11-2016 Apparently Animal and Vegan bodies have started a petition to scrap the new five pound note as it contains animal fat. Simple solution don't eat it and they will be fine. Also set to be minus 10 in some areas of Britain tonight in those areas there will be no wind bet they are glad we built all those wind turbines. RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - themaclad - 30-11-2016 Southgate gets the England job on a four year deal one advantage of him being in post is the chance for the younger generation to get a chance. However it is a safety first decision by the FA. RE: Thread for anything bar PNE - St Charles Owl - 30-11-2016 Its really the only move they could make, there isn't anyone else around to take the job and at least Southgate knows the set up and the expectations. |
