RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Stairs - 10-05-2016

Getting off the fence now.

I would not be unhappy if Rodgers (or Raffa) happened this summer. But my fear, and we have lost of history to suggest it would be true, is that unless it happened fast we would end up with another bad season as they will have inherited a squad and would say they came too late to change it in year one.

So I vote Tony Pulis.

Justification being that if JP supports him this summer, TP plus the new technical director have a great opportunity to invest in a squad refresh this summer. TP fully appreciates what he has and where the changes are needed. I accept he will err on the side of caution and survival first, but he has shown a willingness to add flair and attack recently and maybe next season we will get more of that.

It's a work in development. Season by season. Fingers crossed for a good transfer window summary. See you all on that thread for the next four months.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Dingle Bells - Dingle Bells - 10-05-2016

I voted for Pulis - This is for next season only mind.

Personally I would rather have one more season of dodgy football (IMO: I dont think the football has been that bad at times!)
One more season to build some extra cash, and then after that push on with a new manager.

When you look at what Stoke have done since Pulis has left, that is the sort of thing we can do, but they have managed to do that after Pulis gave them years of stability.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Latecomer - 10-05-2016

I put my vote - reluctantly - in for Pulis.

I've been crying out for patience and consistency in our managerial department for years and although I keep giving Pulis the benefit of the doubt, we have mainly become a nothing team. We're just not ever set up to go out and dominate games and create chances.

I want to see Pulis go - but absolutely not for Rodgers.

I said on a thread months ago that I think we should only be looking at the top two tiers of managers if Pulis goes. We're no longer a Robson, Megson, Pulis sort of club financially and we should stop acting like on in the managerial department.

The main problem in moving Albion forward now, as I see it, is our inability to attract good players and keep young players. This is impacting on the ambition and atmosphere within the fans, which is in turn affecting our on field performances.

Get a good manager in with a good rep and we start bringing in good young players again. Tell me one young, exciting player who is out there right now thinking 'do you know what, I'd love to go and sit on the bench in that West Brom team' - that is probably down to Pulis more than anyone else.

Ironically, i think we could have had it with Pepe Mel... potentially... we'll never know.

Anyway, for me, Pulis should go, we need someone bigger and better to replace him though, and that most certainly isn't Brendan Rodgers.

I would take Rafa though.

you have made me giggle there zinman even tho I don't hate Pulis that is still very amusing ;-)

Anyway as I've said in the past I was in favour of TP. I must admit, although I don't see us live (can't afford to go and live in London and work a lot of weekends) and only watch on SS when we win or nick a draw (didn't watch bournemouth game cos it felt like a loss) I have lost a lot of faith this past few months 3 points out of 24 and a waste of a sky subscription and I'm wavering. Seriously sick of losing to teams we should beat with the odd bolt out of the blue surprise draw against the likes of spurs.
Regards Rodgers i bow to other peoples opinions here I really don't know if he'd be good or bad for us as others have said one good season with swansea then a mixed bag with liverpool.

One of you mentioned rafa? I think he's a good manager and he's proven but I just dont think he'd be interested unless there were no other choice should Newcastle go down. I think he's a man who wants a big money/status team

On to Pulis and as I said above I've actually lost faith I dont mind a team that allows quality opposition possession and goes for counter attacking and set pieces as long as we get results but since the results dried up and we allow every team possession no matter how dodgy they are then it gets bloody tiresome. But I also think the players need to take some blame. We've had problems again, this time berahino and his odem antics, which really F*****d us over. We have players that seem to dazzle one game in 5 or 6 like sess we have an ageing squad with a serious lack of pace. I believe we've really missed Morrisons creativity and brunts contribution and worst of all strikers that cant quite cut it. Ron may come good and has been ok, berahino has been a Nob, poor old lambert, well, what can you say? I was excited by him signing but he's been a total flop and anichebe who I never thought was a goalscorer anyway and simply cant stay fit.

So to sum up I think were probably likely to have TP in charge next season and the crucial factors are A How much will he get to spend? B who will he spend it on? C Who is interested in coming to a team that constantly struggles and will finish 16th this season?

I truly believe we have a good goalkeeping dept but we need 1 dedicated RB + daws 2 dedicated LB and by that I
mean wingers with pace. We have evans Mccauley should start ollsson chester plenty of CB's don't need anymore. 2 creative attacking midfielders keep morrison yacob fletcher sess starters then gardner mcClean brunt as squad players ditch all the strikers except Rondon and the academy kids and get 2 new goalscorers and i mean GOAL scorers proven but that wont be easy see point C above. that's my minimum a total of 7 new faces but they need to be quality real quality

One final point is TP says he likes the club but it needs a lot of work putting in. Well at least he realises that albiet glaringly obvious point after what we've all seen this season. Lets hope the entire club are willing to put that work in from top to bottom

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Worldclassalbion - 10-05-2016

To say Rodgers failed at Liverpool is a joke. He finished 2nd. I would love that kind of failure at The Albion. Pulis will waste whatever money he is given. As you can tell I want him gone ASAP and I honestly can't believe our luck that this season has been crazy from top to bottom and there are worse teams than us. If TP stays my season ticket goes sadly.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Lets-talk-about-Teix - 10-05-2016

Whatever Rodgers limitations are he is a better manager than Pulis. He promoted and stabilised his Swansea side on a fraction of the budget that Pulis had at Stoke, finished above his Stoke side whilst playing decent football. As for Liverpool, they should have won the league in his second year, granted, and would have if Gerrard hadn't slipped on his arsse. A couple of 6-7th placed finishes which is where Liverpool have spent most of the last decade, whether under 'King Kenny' or good old 'Woy'.

Whether you think Pulis deserves another season is open to debate. But genuinely can't believe there is a basis for saying Pulis is a better manager.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - St Charles Owl - 11-05-2016

Just to put another spin on Rodgers time at Liverpool, and I admit now I think he is over rated as a top manager, he spent 292m pounds in the 3 years he was at Liverpool and still didn't deliver a trophy for them, LVG is being slated for spending that amount at MU!! Is there any evidence that he can recruit good players within the budget that JP would give him?? The year they came second he also had SAS up front for him, a partnership that should have delivered the title and other cups as well. Let's remember he inherited Suarez as well, so can lay no claim to even signing him!!

Benitez would be a better option IMO if he could be persuaded to come to the Hawthorns.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Tibby Baggie - 11-05-2016

Vote for Pulis from me but solely due to the fact I don't rate Rodgers.

He was backed heavily in the transfer market at Liverpool and struggled, he wouldn't spend our money any more wisely than TP would to be honest and he'd probably want higher wages too.

However, a vote for TP isn't me saying he should stay for next season. Far from it.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - BaggieSteve - 11-05-2016

Interesting that Swansea have just confirmed that Guedolin will remain as Swansea coach for next two years, which takes that option away from Rodgers. Let's see what the next few days reveal as regards the Albion.

RE: Tony Pulis v Brendan Rodgers - Beefy 1965 - 11-05-2016

I just havn't a clue and wouldn't mind if TP stays or goes a lot depends on who would replace him.
I also voted him to stay over Rodgers.
What is clear and you can go on most sites to see polls like the one we have here,
And guess what the divide is almost 50/50 on whether TP should stay or go,
Some reckon better the devil you know and want premier league football over being entertained,
One thing is for sure though ..............
NEVER has a manager divided fans so much as Tony Pulis . FACT Thumb up
