RE: WBA vs Man Utd - Match Thread - silverbaggie - 05-03-2016 Surely not Charlton!! I wondered if it was the highly talented and much missed Duncan Edwards. Couldn't begin to guess the Baggies player. Come on Ska'd, put us out of our misery. Absolutely correct, Kennedy and Charlton shortly before Munich. RE: WBA vs Man Utd - Match Thread - betterthanbaird - 06-03-2016 I think we've got a good chance here, united have so many injuries and our attacking players are in the form to really shake them, we'll get at least a point imo. RE: WBA vs Man Utd - Match Thread - drewks - 06-03-2016 Love the pic of Dennis Law, Ska'd - Jeff and him were 2 of my heroes, and 2 of the finest ever headers of the concrete ball. Just imagine how they'd do with the modern one. I realise that this subject is more than tinged with sadness because of the damage that the heavy ball did to these fine players - especially, tragically, Jeff; this isn't meant to open up that debate, it's just to reflect on the immense skill that these 2 (particularly) had in the air. Dennis Law was only slight and about 5'7" (I'd guess) too - jumped like a crackerjack!! RE: WBA vs Man Utd - Match Thread - silverbaggie - 06-03-2016 On the subject of brilliant headers of the old leather ball, there used to be another player whose headers seemed to be harder than most could kick a ball. About the same era too I recall. He played for Southampton and I think that his name was Ron Davies or am I miss-remembering again? ![]() ![]() RE: WBA vs Man Utd - Match Thread - Tibby Baggie - 06-03-2016 #WBA team v @ManUtd: Foster; Olsson, Chester, Yacob, Gardner, Berahino, McAuley, Fletcher, Dawson, Sessegnon, Rondon #WBA subs v @ManUtd: Myhill; Anichebe, McClean, Pocognoli, Lambert, Pritchard, Sandro RE: WBA vs Man Utd - Match Thread - baggietrousers - 06-03-2016 Thought yacob was suspended, !! From what I've read online it was actually Chester that got booked last game and not Yacob. Massive boost him being in the squad today though! If I remember right he scored goals for fun for the Saints for many years then transferred (ironically) to Man Utd where he was never quite the same in terms of his finishing. Blimey - just Googled him, and he died 3 years ago in America; in pretty sad circumstances in his later years |
