As much as I rate the bloke, been a good servant of the club etc etc, we cannot keep handing out massive lucrative contracts to players that are approaching the end of their careers. Would Jimmy accept a short term deal?
I'd imagine Morrison is on easily £40k+ a week and gave his "come and get me" plea to other clubs to cover his own interests which I completely understand. I also understand the club saying "you want a new contract, continue to earn one and we'll take it from there". The same goes for Sess, Olsson etc.
Would doubt he is on £40,000 a week, isn't that what Saido is on and that made him one of our top earners.

Obviously taking it with a pinch of salt but they have him as being on £48k a week. Big wages for someone who potentially should be becoming more of a squad player than first team in the near future as we look to bring new players in.

Hmmmmm........IMHO JM is much more than just a squad player now, and would still be one of the first names on the team sheet for a couple of years - what is he now....29 - so he's easily got another 3 years in him at this level. Top, top player for me; when he plays badly WE play badly.
He's the one true offensive PL-class player we have who plays consistently well at this level

But the alternative is continually paying massive transfer fees to replace players who are leaving. Whatever you do you are spending a fortune.
I know this from my many hours of playing Football Manager.

The best alternative would be if we could revisit the glory days of a Dan Ashworth led transfer window where we could be signing a "new" James Morrison for the sum of £1.5m that we originally paid Middlesbrough.
Sadly the chances of that aren't very likely but we will definitely need to be replacing the likes of Morrison and McAuley et al sooner than we all think.

We desperately need to get any new wave of signings spot on and not what we have experienced of late under Garlick post Dan Ashworth.
Get it wrong as we have done with the likes of McClean, Chester ec etc and our Premier League status will be in danger.

Perhaps JM is looking at a return to Boro. Good signing on fee as a free agent and a return home. He must be due a testimonial. Year soon with us. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been told he's not getting one.

Totally agree with these statements. At 29, 30, Morrison's in his prime and is good for another 3-4 years yet in the PL. I would NOT want see him go to a rival PL club.
And don't forget, Sess is 29 as well, but I can't imagine any Baggies fans willing to let him go just because he's 30 next birthday.

Personally, I think Mozza is a bit hit and miss.
On his day he's excellent, but he has off days and tends to get injured at least once a season. He's also a player who need 5-6 games to get back up to speed when he's injured.
I was told he was on over £45k so if he's looking for an improved deal, that would take him beyond £50k. Given his age, injury record and quality (mediocre player at this level), I could certainly understand if he was released. The key in these situations is to have better players lined up to replace them - if that happens, I don't mind seeing players go.
