RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - Devongone - 26-01-2016 CT is clever, clever enough to have made himself Mr Allen's man. The equation with Morsy is whether he is so central to our fight against relegation that it is worth losing the ONLY transfer fee we are ever likely to get for him to stay in Division One. I went on Bob's Board yesterday - a naive, myopic and very angry place. Isn't it true that most of our debt is to Mr Allen? And that anyway his wealth assures us that our debt will not immediately be called in? So we have to get used to the fact we are tied to him and his fat man Mr Turner. They are part of our data. I don't like or trust Mr Turner, but we've won titles and cups under his stewardship. An international academy is a good idea. Our ground is the envy of many and our support in relative terms is good - look at Rochdale, much larger population, less than half the attendance. Of course there've been crap decisions. Mr Saunders is clearly a good football man, but has failed at every management opportunity. Mr Sheridan stayed when he demonstrably had no idea where to turn next. We failed to invest in players we might have kept for the future, but did invest in others who didn't quite match their reputation ...... But if you change the names these are problems that will be recognised at many other clubs. It's worth remembering we did try one of the alternatives - a corrupt chairman who wasn't allowed to pass Go and went straight to jail. RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - bluepooch - 26-01-2016 Bobs board is awful when things aren't going well.Full of know it alls who know exactly what and why things have gone wrong and what will go wrong in future . RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - spireitematt - 26-01-2016 Did anyone see that thread on Bob's Board 'AFC Chesterfield'? I don't think things are that bad are they? RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - bluepooch - 27-01-2016 Stupid thread started by one of the usual suspects . RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - Devongone - 27-01-2016 A supporter-owned AFC Chesterfield taking on the Spire mantle would be lovely. Being tied to a Chairman who might make bad decisions, or even die, is obviously not ideal. We all know that don't we? The first would only grow out of a crisis - a real life-threatening crisis. The second? Well Mr Allen 's a man, he's likely to make mistakes (or brilliant decisions) and eventually die. We can't get rid of him even if we wanted to, so where's AFC Chesterfield going to come from? Are the Bob's Boarders likely to fund and run the new club through the 10-20 years it will take to come up through the tiers ...... and they'd be forced to start below Staveley's level? I didn't kind of get the feeling there was that kind of acumen available. We've a truly decent man as manager who will give us his all. Saving us from relegation with or without Morsy will be a struggle. We've a Chairman who has helped us change everything about the club, except our perennial inability to climb higher than the bottom two divisions. Where our money goes is not transparent to me at least, but as Mr Allen does hold the power of life and death over us and chooses to exercise it in our favour, he can't be all bad can he? RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - Dancingwilldoit - 27-01-2016 Dev, you are 100% correct. Some the absolute bunkum being talked about is seriously making me wonder if some CFC fans actually live in this world or live in an X-Box. Its always the same old - "wheres all the money going" - lets spend some more. They all forget about loan interest, running expenses, wages, then other costs ie pitch relaying, ground upkeep etc. Simple fact is we probably earn about £2.5 million on gate receipts, maybe £2-300k PROFIT on catering and about £150k on advertising and shop sales that's about £2.9 mill income. Off set that with wages £2.2 mil total (Players £1.8mil) say £400k interest, NIC say £150k, New pitch say £100k, running expenses say £200k, Policing £100k?, Business rates £100k? Insurance must be at least £100k. Which means our outgoings must be around £3.35 mil and I can well see where DA is looking for an extra 1000 gate or we need to sell players to stay solvent. Without Dave Allen we would still be at Saltergate playing in Lge 2 because players wouldn't be interested in our facilities. Fans are talking about starting again at the bottom and working our way back up. FFS how many would pay to watch AFC Chesterfield vs Ormskirk? In the next breath they say the wont renew their season ticket if we get relegated ???????? AFC Chesterfield would have to come from fans putting money together and local businesses buying shares to create the club and you would have to enter a league just below Staveley but the big question is where would you play? How would you get players and how would you pay there wages or would you refund there travel expenses? Mansfield have an AFC Mansfield but I don't think its meant to rival Mansfield Town. (27-01-2016, 19:17)Dancingwilldoit Wrote: FFS how many would pay to watch AFC Chesterfield vs Ormskirk? I think people would pay to watch and welcome the idea of an AFC Chesterfield if anything happened to Chesterfield FC (God forbid) but as long as there is a Chesterfield FC I think fans would struggle to go watch an AFC team. I think the idea at the moment is infeasible. RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - bluepooch - 28-01-2016 Has anyone read the 'why cant we be like Burton ' thread.Another stupid thread, dont they realise there's about 40 bigger clubs who wish they were in Burtons position. Its great what they have achieved but they are an exception to the rule . some of our fans think its our chairmans fault that we are bot top of the league . Yeah I read that. Sometimes the managers and players fit together and it works doesn't matter how much money you have. Gary Rowett did wonders with getting Burton to the playoff final the same year we got promotion to L1, then JFH carried it on and they won the title and he left top of L1 when he went to QPR and Nigel Clough is carrying it on as well by not changing too much. RE: MORSY MASTERCLASS - Devongone - 28-01-2016 The Championship has all but killed Yeovil, which may be smaller than Burton, but it has a bigger and more fanatical base. If Mr Clough thought it was hard work trying to get Derby up from the Championship I wonder how he'll rate keeping Burton there. |
