RE: Hmmm - Dancingwilldoit - 19-11-2015 Wow, I didn't realise things were that bad. Here's me thinking 7 points above the drop zone and only 4 points off a playoff place, more points than we had at this stage last season and still in the facup. Oh well there's always women's football or better still Legends Football League. That's what I was thinking how long can we keep winning away and not winning at home because sooner or later it will come to an end. I remember one season I think it was under Sheridan where we won most of our games at Saltergate but struggled to win games away. RE: Hmmm - Devongone - 20-11-2015 Is the team's true ability reflected in the Away or the Home record? Over a season records tend to balance out - it would be very unusual to see a team with say 5 home wins over the season and eleven away ..... but we're currently heading in that very direction. On Home form alone the bottom four currently reads Chesterfield, Swindon, Oldham and Crewe, with the bottom two even having a game in hand over us. If our record balanced out by the Away form moving in the direction of the Home then prospects would indeed be bleak. And the trouble with continuing only to win away is that it doesn't bring fans to home matches. On the other hand, because we are talking about a small sample of games only, win the next two Home league games and we'd be saying 14 points at home, well that's not too bad is it? But the quick turnaround argument works both ways too, look how easily Fleetwood, Barnsley and Swindon have tumbled down the division this season, all three were eyeing the play-offs not too long ago, and certainly all possess several players who would get into our own current best eleven. RE: Hmmm - bluepooch - 20-11-2015 You've hit the nail on the head there Dev.We are jumping up and down about a small amount of games.Even Saunders 40% strike rate is only over 20 games .far too few to judge . I just think we have gone backwards in terms of an entertaining easy on the eye team.We no longer get compliments from other clubs and have created relatively few chances in recent games .Of course that's irrelevant ,its the results that matter .If we have one effort on goal and win 1-0 would everybody be happy ?. If we had one effort on goal and won 1-0 against tough opposition then that would be alright but I think the fans would soon get really annoyed and bored if it happened every game because its not the way to play football, we've tried taking the lead and grinding out results by hanging on and I think that has been our downfall where we've took the lead and parked the bus but haven't been able to hold on and end up throwing away the lead and losing the game. Look at Wigan game 2-0 up with 13 minutes to go and we throw it away because there first goal spurred them on to get a result, then there is the Colchester game where we were down to 10 men and 3-1 up and then let them snatch a point in stoppage time. We need to win games by 2, 3 or even 4 goals. |
