How things have changed. Halftime Bovril served from a wooden shed; smelly gents WC's and certainly no hot water, soap and electric hand dryers.
I wonder how the players of those days would fair against today's modern players? I suspect today's team would be far fitter, more skillful and win the game easily.
Actually, at the time this documentary was made there wouldn't have been any substitutions allowed in a Football League match at all. It was only in 1965 that they allowed one substitution - solely to replace an injured player - with a tactical sub finally permitted in 1967.
So yeah, I think "kick 'em off the pitch" might well have been Archie Macaulay's gameplan. But would Pulis just see it coming and prepare the lads in advance? I reckon we've still got a few Baggies even now who wouldn't shy away from a bit of argy-bargy...
