RE: A flurry of thoughts - Slick_Footwork - 03-02-2015 The thing with Sessegnon is that his best games have always been when he's up front (just off the striker). I don't think he's a winger myself and TBH, I don't think there are many lower half managers who would trust him in a flat 4 man midfield. So if TP insists on Victor and Saido, I can't see Sess starting games. I think the only way all 3 can fit in the same side is if Sess plays off Big Vic up front and Saido plays left midfield like he did against Everton and when he broke through last season. Saido showed he's disciplined defensively and can play this role - but it would probably be a waste of best attribute (runs off the shoulder and finishing). At least with TP, if Sess is dropped we will still have 2 forwards on the pitch (Victor and Saido), Irvine dropped Sess a few times and replaced him with a defensive midfielder. I think TP at least likes a partnership up top. I personally prefer Sess off Saido. But TP likes a big striker to hold the ball up and take the pressure off the team. I guess it'll be a case of seeing what develops, but I can't imagine all of Sess, Victor and Saido starting games yet. RE: A flurry of thoughts - Baggievicar - 03-02-2015 Slick, if you're right we'll probably see Sess and Saido when Vic gets injured. So, next week then. RE: A flurry of thoughts - Kookiebags - 04-02-2015 Morning All, I know it looks like I selected a 4-4-1-1, with Big Vic being the target man, Saido in behind, and a flat 4 midfield, but I would ideally like it to be a more of a 4-3-3, with Sess and Saido interchanging, running from wide to the middle, feeding of Vic, and the midfielders just that bit behind and feeding in when the ball inevitably comes back, but with TP,s 2 banks of 4 when defending, it's not easy to re-adjust to an attacking formation like this. Vic needs to hold the ball up to allow the others to get into place, or the speedier players need to leg it up the wing with the ball while the others get into the box or around the edge of the box, where a lot of goals are now being scored from, as the ball dips and swerves more and deflects of the legs of others. We can be a counter attacking side, but at the expense of a rigid bank of 4's in defence, which is sound defence but stifles attack. Anyway, what do I know. Cheers, Kookiebags. RE: A flurry of thoughts - valpayne - 04-02-2015 Well folks never mind TP, his tactics and formations because Saido has announced to the entire world on SSN that he will be leaving us to go on to BIGGER things in the summer. One ex footballer has also come out and said can you imagine what thats done to the dressing room atmos...? Here we go again saving some unknown footballer from a desperate situation In SB case plucked from a war torn country and nurtured through the youth ranks, at considerable expense, into the first team and an england call up and suddenly, surprise, surprise, little old albion aint good enough for the kid anymore. He's got ambition to warm a first team bench elsewhere. I give up I truly give up. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: A flurry of thoughts - pieandabovril - 04-02-2015 Striker Berahino told Sky Sports News HQ that he was taking care of his “short-terms right now” but that if he helped the Albion in their relegation battle and scored as many goals as he could, then he was sure “the fans wouldn’t mind me pushing on and moving on to bigger things”. Former Newcastle defender Howey says some of the senior players at The Hawthorns may be having words. “If he was a team-mate of mine, I’d be thinking ‘Oh, really? Bigger things? Hold on a second – how many games have you played? You’ve played less than 100 games, this is your second season, more or less, and you’re talking about bigger things? Is that a slight on me?’ “So I’d be digging him out and sort of saying: ‘If you want bigger things then show us on a Saturday, every week, week in, week out, and show us some passion.' “I’d be furious if I was his team-mate because – yes, he’s talented, yes, he’s a good player – but I tell you what, coming out, saying things like that, I’d be straight with him the next day." Berahino has scored 14 goals for West Brom this season and looks set to add to his one England cap. And he has sparked interest from clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham, both reportedly offering £25m in the January transfer window. But with Berahino contracted to West Brom until 2017 and the 21-year-old set to stay at The Hawthorns at least until the summer, former Aston Villa player Lee Hendrie believes it’s time to stop the “Jack the Lad” comments. “As a youngster – go and establish yourself for two or three seasons. You don’t have to talk about when you’re going to leave, what clubs are interested,” Hendrie said. “You don’t have to go and say publicly I’m looking for a bigger move, because he’s at a club now who are struggling, they’re not out of the relegation battle. “All you’re going to do is cause upset in the changing room.” |
