RE: Prediction League FINAL WEEK Results - Dingle-Dingle - 13-05-2023

My Dog and I would like to thank all concerned with the league for their hard work over the season. Prince Robert of oh look a muddy puddle, let`s roll in it, is looking forwards to a rest during the close season, not having to bark out the ruseult of the matches when I ask him what the score will be.

Good luck to all involved in the playoffs.

Was in the pub last night and an optimist, a realist, and a pessimist were arguing over how much beer was in a glass that had just been poured. Me being the oppourtunist just drank it.

As a reminder we entered the final week of the season with 3 players, Derby, Minizin and Zinman chasing the Premiership title, Stairs hoping for a miracle to somehow close the gap at the top and SCO and Snooty needing divine intervention to avoid relegation. Sanjay was looking nailed on for the relegation play off spot but was still nervously looking both up and down the table.

So how did it go? The top 3 all chose different gamball results so would the season come down to just this one game? Could miracles actually happen? Could Zinman keep asking questions rather than get to the point?

OK, drum roll please...here are the final placings with the weeks scores below.

Champion - Derby 309 points.
Congratulations to Derby on retaining his title. It was tight, particularly after losing out on the gamball, but a spot-on bonus and 2 other correct results gave him 8 points which turned out to be just enough.

2nd - Minizin 307 points.
Minizin shared the final week's top spot with 13 points but it wasn't quite enough to close the gap on Derby, falling just 2 points behind. A real shame that. Mini scored on 4 games including the gamball bit in the end his failure to turn any of those into correct scores was his undoing.

3rd - Zinman 303 points
Zinman's 11 point week fell short of what he needed to close the gap on the top 2 as his gamble on a gamball draw failed to pay off. Still, not a bad season after gaining promotion last year.

4th - Stairs 283 points
He needed a miracle and didn't get one. Stairs went for outside bets on most games and paid the price, ending the season with his worst weekly score of minus 4 points. Just one correct prediction ad losses on all his balls.

5th - Blue Baggie 263 points
A steady return of 8 points was enough to avoid any chance of being dragged into the relegation play-off place.

6th - Sanjay 253 points
So the season continues for Sanjay as he enters the relegation play-off lottery, quite a fall from his second place last year. He at least enters the play-offs in decent form finishing joint top of this week's table with 13 points thanks largely to his gamball.

7th - Relegated SCO 232 points
8 points was never going to be enough to avoid the drop.

8th - Relegated Snooty 219 points
Snooty will be relieved that the season's over as his miserable run continued into the final week scoring from just 2 games for a total of 2 points.

The observant amongst you may have noticed that there were no positional changes in the last week of the season. Just 6 points separating the top 3 made for an exciting end and thanks for everyone for taking part and, hopefully, having some fun. Most of us can relax and enjoy the summer while Sanjay (and SCO in real life!) go through the agony or ecstasy of the play offs.

Final Week
Sanjay      13pts 1CS 5CR 5GB -3BB 1SB
Minizin        13pts 0CS 4CR 5GB 3BB 1SB
Zinman      11pts 1CS 5CR -3GB 6BB 0SB
Blue            8pts 1CS 4CR -3GB 3BB 0SB
Derby          8pts 1CS 3CR -3GB 6BB 1SB
SCO            8pts 0CS 4CR 5GB -3BB 0SB
Snooty        2pts 0CS 2CR -3GB 3BB 0SB
Stairs          -4pts 0CS 1CR -3GB -3BB 0SB

Championship

Well I assumed that there wouldn't be many changes during the final week, but then I didn't think the Championship players would post the lowest points total of the season this week!!!  In the end here is where we finished:

Champion - Dingle 347 points
To be fair he has had this wrapped up for quite a while, the occasional poor week gave others hope where now we know there was none!!  Congratulations Dingle!!

Runner-up - Lady Jane 307 points
She has been solid for most of the season and takes the honor of being the best Ball player in the division!!  Well done on her promotion!!

Joint 3rd - BaggieOne 291 points
Joint 3rd - BBB 291 points

For the first time since I have been scoring the Play Off place has ended in a tie!!  BBB was way behind a couple of weeks ago but two good weeks for him combined with BaggieOne seemingly sat on the beach with a Pina Colada, saw them end level!!

5th - AAA 290 points
I think had AAA not been a no show for the last two weeks we would have seen him take the third spot, but you have to be in it to win it and he wasn't!!

6th - Themaclad 224 points
This has been his spot for virtually the whole season, didn't really trouble those above and was well clear of those below.

7th - Twerton 207 points
Twerton finally gets off the bottom for good, a rare feat by him this season!

8th - Amelia - 200 points
A poorly timed no show this week cost her 5 points but won her the wooden spoon!

Here are the final weeks scores for those who have read this far!!

BBB 13pts 1CS 4CR 5GB -3BB 1SB
Themaclad 11pts 0CS 3CR 5GB 3BB 1SB
Dingle 6pts 1CS 4CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Lady Jane 3pts 0CS 2CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Twerton 2pts 0CS 4CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
BaggieOne -4pts 0CS 1CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Amelia No Predictions
AAA No predictions

Play-Offs

So Sanjay enters the Play Offs as the Premier League representative but who is joining him??

We haven't had a tie for this important position so we convened a meeting of the full committee to discuss what we should do.  The meeting took place at a prestigious hotel in the US of course and was attended by all that were invited.  The discussion lasted for hours, what criteria should be used to break the tie, which stat was worth more than the next one etc etc.

In the end, an exhausted committee decided that the only fair thing to do was to allow both BaggieOne and BBB to both take part in the first ménage à trois Play Off in the WBA Prediction League history!!

So the Play offs taking place over the next two weeks will be between:

Sanjay
BaggieOne
BBB

Get your predictions in!!

Cheers
SCO

Can I say that was a suprise. Me'nage I will except everytime!! Where did AAA get to - thanks anyway for not turning up.
What a time to get get a correct GB and BB and SB.

Always enjoyed a tussle with Sanjay in the past, so here we go again. Good luck Baggie1.

RE: Prediction League FINAL WEEK Results - Zinman - 17-05-2023

And to show that we don't ignore BBB's posts (well, not all of them), I will be carrying out some analysis of the scoring system surrounding the gamball during the summer. I don't want to eliminate the bonus and gamballs but I want to make it so that it encourages playing the gamball rather than playing safe by avoiding it.

RE: Prediction League FINAL WEEK Results - Sanjay - 17-05-2023

Many thanks to you all for all the hard work you put into this game, it's a lot of fun!
Best wishes to you all and hope everyone has a brilliant Summer. Cheers.

Well i never, sits back in amazement !
It cost me  a place in the Prem by playing against the odds.

Common sense is a black country virtue, and being BC well ......... maybe.

As i said scrapm the mimuses and continue with the 4pts correct score result, the 2pts correct result. and if ou like the 1pt for SB with both teams scoring. Angel

Whatever  your wisdom decides, we all appreciate the game, and long may it continue.
