RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - Lord Snooty - 11-10-2014 Played well Scotland. Well deserved win, though I did nod off towards the end. ![]() RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - St Charles Owl - 11-10-2014 NI get a 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands. They were 2-0 up early but unable to add anymore, three points was the target but I am sure they would have hoped for more goals. Poland beat Germny 2-0, not sure if that is good or bad for Scotland!!! RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - Lord Snooty - 12-10-2014 Good penalty save by Roy Carroll. If that had gone in for 2-1, anything could've happened. As it was, at 2-0, they cruised home. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 12-10-2014 Pretty awful for Scotland, SCO. Still, if we can beat Poland home and away... I'd take a 2-0 win over the Faroes if it were Scotland playing them to be honest. Some of the best national sides in Europe have struggled to beat them over the years so first and foremost is always getting the points. Goal difference is just a bonus. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - St Charles Owl - 12-10-2014 I agree with that El Car, get the points and the rest will take care of itself!! I saw some fans unhappy that England only won 5-0 but forget to mention that they now have 2 wins out of 2, so keep that up and the GD won't matter!! I expect England to qualify but it would be great if Scotland or maybe even Wales to get through as well. Can't see NI doing it, and I think you guys have the best chance out of the others. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 14-10-2014 Looking like another good round of matches all round with England winning 1-0 in Estonia and Wales getting a 2-1 home win against Cyprus over the last couple of days. At half time tonight Scotland are 1-1 at Poland, Eire are holding Germany away 0-0 (our narrow defeat is starting to look like a poor result now!) and N.Ireland could be heading towards the result of the night, leading 1-0 in Greece in the battle of Kyle Lafferty versus the poor man's Kyle Lafferty (Georgios Samaras). Mixed fortunes so far in the 2nd half. Scotland took a 2-1 lead but we've just been pegged back to 2-2 and Eire have fallen behind in Germany, but Northern Ireland have doubled their lead in Greece through Lafferty. N. Ireland see out their 2-0 win, Scotland hold Poland 2-2, and Eire, having been pummelled for the entire match, somehow squeak a last minute equalizer to leave Scotland as the only side so far not to take anything off Germany. ![]() RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - St Charles Owl - 15-10-2014 NI's start has been excellent so far and in what is not the strongest group, they look like they have a definite chance to keep up the good form. You are right about Scotland's result in Germany. Once you lost that game, the hope had to be that all the other teams would lose to them as well and they would run out as group winners. This would hve left the rest to fight it out for second place. As it is with other beating or taking points off them, it leaves Scotland needing to beat the other contenders. Still, so far you have played arguably the hardest two away games and although you only picked up 1 point from them, the performances were encouraging. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - Devongone - 15-10-2014 This qualifying tournament should be excellent for England. If they can beat Slovenia then Roy can surely afford to blood a new back four of Shaw Chambers Cahill and Dier. The problem is that everyone seems to be adopting the Spanish style of tip-tapping into the box in order to walk the ball into the net ......... and we can't do it like the Spanish. We don't seem to have a midfield player with either the capacity or bravery to shoot from further out ...... and if you don't mix up your play, decent teams can defend against you. Scotland are doing well with limited resources, but Germany's poor performance is a problem for them. Germany can get out of the group playing badly I fear ........ and that might leave Scotland battling for third place with a team at least as strong as them on paper. 0-2 in Greece would be a good result for England, Germany or Brazil, so all praise to NI for raising their game. Wales worry me though. In Bale and Ramsey they have two players who'd be stars of a GB team, but they are rarely fit at the same time. Wales always seem to have an injury crisis, it seems to have lasted most of my life ..... RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 15-10-2014 I'd go so far as to say England are practically there already. All Roy really needs to do is see out the remaining home games and maybe pick up the odd away point, but I'd expect results to be even better than that. Wales and Northern Ireland have started well enough that qualification looks very realistic, while we're probably only going to see one of Scotland and Eire finish in the top three. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 14-11-2014 It's been a cracking first half in the Scotland-Ireland game, though it's finished goal-less. It's been punctuated by some shoddy tackles though and I wouldn't be surprised to see a red card at some point. Northern Ireland also in action, playing away to Romania. Also scoreless after 45 minutes. |
