RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - 4evaabaggie - 26-12-2022 Despite our ropey first 16 games there are only eight teams conceded less than us and only four at this time scored more than us. Despite some of the early game performances being deserving of wins that didn't come and a points haul that was way short of where it should've been we are still right in the mix and looking good for a play off spot. The squad is starting to perform and look like they have met each other, still some weak spots but a better all round team, from the starters and those that come on off the bench. Still a big ask but top two should be the target, still fifteen points behind the blades. Come on you baggies Tomorrow against my better judgement, I will be a blues fan for 90 minutes ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - Stairs - 28-12-2022 Happy New Year. I will be cheering on the Albion from Bonnie Scotland as flying up to celebrate NY Scottish style and take in a bit of Loch Ness. Can’t wait until I can get my schedule clear and get to another match. RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - derbybaggie - 28-12-2022 (28-12-2022, 00:50)Stairs Wrote: Happy New Year. RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - Blue Baggie - 29-12-2022 Tough game PNE have a tight defence. Not much of a goal threat. I don't see us scoring for fun. A 1- 0 win will be fine. RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - 4evaabaggie - 29-12-2022 How about 2 - 0 Blue? Finished 2-0.... Was an Okay performance, he scored twice and was man of the match, given a rating of 9.3 on Fotmob. Up to ninth, one point behind the playoffs (sixth spot). Burnley 24 50 pts Sheffield U 25 50 pts Blackburn. 25 39 pts Sunderland 25 37 pts Watford 24 37 pts Boro. 25 36 pts Luton. 24 36 pts Millwall. 24 36 pts Albion. 25 35 pts RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - Blue Baggie - 30-12-2022 (29-12-2022, 23:29)4evaabaggie Wrote: How about 2 - 0 Blue? 2 - 0 was a great result, we completely dominated them. Onwards and upwards. RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - baggietrousers - 30-12-2022 Very comfortable last night, Yokuslu was awesome throughout. Looking like a decent team again but just need to replace one or two who are clearly not up to it. Townsend had another shocker and I was far from impressed by Peters. Just goes to show how well the rest of the team performed. Starting to feel quite optimistic, especially if we can get a good full back or two in January. Hi Blue, I know it was a great result, I was playing on words, Okay Yokuslu scored both goals, had a great game, great player rating, man of the match, an OKAY result. My apathy of the Jurassic years is being blown away, the sunshine at the end of the very long storm is Carlos Corberan, only black cloud still casting a shadow is LAI, the loan arranger. I wish he would sell up and leave taking Tonto with him. Love the Albion, always have, always will, hate modern biased football, however I am now strongly considering visiting the shrine again. Not quite the same though going on your own. Son hates sport, all sport. In-laws not really into football either. COYB, ALBION til I die. RE: WBA Xmas & New Year Thread - Slick_Footwork - 31-12-2022 I said when calling for Bruce's head that we needed to revert back to the simple things. 4 at the back with players in their proper positions. 2 stoppers sat in front of the defence, giving the attacking players a platform to build from. Building the team around our better players. Credit to Corberan for very quickly seeing those things and getting his selections close to bang on... 7 wins from 9 is a fantastic record... Especially when you consider he lost his first game copying Bruce's garbage selection of 5 at the back, with our best player Okay Yokuslu warming the bench. Since implementing the changes and picking his own team, we've won 7 from 8. Exceptional, especially when you consider we've had no fit centre halves etc. I'm typically quite a negative poster who demands perfection. But for the first time in a long time, I actually feel like we have a manager in charge who knows what he's doing. His formation, selections, subs all seem to make sense. And while some of his picks will be up for debate (i.e. selecting Phillips) you can make sense of it and see how he's trying to balance the team. Hopefully Bruce is watching and seeing how much of an idiot he was leaving Okay Yokuslu out of this team when we were bottom of the Championship. He was our best player in the Premier League when we were actually competitive and yet that fool didn't think he was good enough to get in a side bottom of the Championship. He's a Rolls Royce at this level and now he's had a few games to get his fitness up, we're seeing what we all knew he was capable of. The only one who couldn't see it was Steve Bruce. We're not the finished article and would need reinforcements to have a chance at winning the playoffs IMO. Namely in both full back areas, centre midfield, winger and back up striker. But we have plenty to move on to free up funds - Reach, Livermore, Grant, Kelly etc. Maybe Mowatt would flourish in this side next to Yokuslu in the middle of the park? Wouldn't mind seeing him back and getting a chance. Hopeful of another win against Reading and moving into the playoff places. |
