Only plus point today was the consolation goal, purely spawny, kept us out of negative goal difference.

I was walking past the Gas Club when that went in

Difficult to work out how Lewis scored when watching it live.
Seen the replay, he was cutting it back to nobody in particular. The ball hit the defenders toe end and went goal wards, taking the keeper by surprise. He got a hand to it but it had already trickled over the line.
Thirty seconds of the match left and we decided to send big Naby up front.
Too little too late and we got what we deserved. Sod all.

Quote:Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Tees:

"We got there in the end. It (first win) should have been Tuesday night, could have possibly been last Saturday, but it wasn't and you have to go again.

"I think the scoreline flattered them. I thought we were more comfortable than it possibly looked, but we'll take a win.

"Another goal in the ridiculous catalogue of own goals, again, which is a little bit disappointing because I didn't think we really deserved that, but we have to take that on the chin and move on.

"On Tuesday I thought we had a little too much of a swagger about us in the second half, but today we got it right and we've beaten a decent side."

Quite true. They did sit back in the second half, but we were so off form today that we just had nothing to throw at them.

Sorba must be really frustrated now. he keeps making runs, even pointing to where he wants the ball played, but the ball goes off in the other direction. It's almost like they're using him as a decoy to make the opposition go the wrong way. But no. We end up losing it or giving such a wayward pass and young Sorba is cursing again. That was the second half. In the first half, the lad was playing so deep, he was almost stood with Terry the Terrier. He only got forward a bit more when the mighty Turts came on.

As for Whatmore. What more does that lad have to do to be a more consistent player? Play against us every week. He was brilliant at their place last season and brilliant today. The finish for the second was excellent, but whenever do you hear his name at anytime in the rest of the season? Huh

Huddersfield Town manager Carlos Corberan:

"We didn't perform well. The attacking and defending of the team was really poor.

"When they scored the first goal it made us go higher up the pitch but we didn't defend well or win our challenges.

"We changed structure in the second half and the team were more aggressive, but we didn't make many chances.

"With both goals, Middlesbrough were superb in their change of pace and we didn't respond to it. Their final balls and finishing were excellent. but our defensive response was wrong."

Last week we knew West Brom would try and press us high up the pitch, so we kept knocking it over them or through them (as opposed to hoofing it to their keeper) for the forwards to run onto. Boro came with more or less the same game plan and we tried to play through them. We weren't at the races in the first half but their two goals came from beating our press and playing the ball into space for someone up front to run onto. Does this sound in any way shape or form familiar ...... ????

Answers on a postcard to Careless c/o Canalside or a tenner c/o me.

shocking performance, I couldn't pick out one player who deserved any credit

Not one player can come off the pitch thinking they did the bare minimum of what they are capable of. Some serious questions have to be asked of a lot of players, O'Brien was awful, couldn't pass piss let alone a ball on Saturday, high had a couple of good passes but otherwise was given a footballing lesson by howson. toffolo has been off form since he started growing a tash and hasn't looked like getting it back, Thomas has been poor ever since he started getting national attention, his delivery has dropped on quality and his petulance has increased, Saturday he was at fault for the first goal I believe, losing the ball and not looking to get back.

The three centre halves are limited and we know it, so asking them to play like midfielders is always gonna cause us more problems than the opposition, they made watmore look like prime Messi. Turton came on and was his limited self, but arguably wasn't the worst player on the pitch. Sinani somehow stayed on the pitch, I've said it before, I really do not know what he offers, he gives the ball away with silly passes, all one foot, bit of a shadow really, I'd rather an out of form koroma, one goal and he could be back to what he was last season and we really need to keep faith with that. Holmes was typical Holmes, although I think he would be alright in a midfield 3 as someone who would turn and drive at opposition. Danny ward was also typical Danny ward, ran around, lost the ball, ran around a bit more.

We don't offer enough options up top and ward tends to be alone and isolated which doesn't help, I wouldn't mind us staying with 3 at the back, but go with 3-5-2 and leave 2 up top. Be interesting to see if that two on top gets Rhodes into the side

Toffs has been carrying an injury apparently. That'll probably mean him out til Feb then. If he's playing unfit, that must mean Carlos doesn't trust Ruffels.

Defeat at Barnsley on Saturday and the alarm bells may start ringing in Deans ear
