Its a football match between the two oldest teams in international football at a major tournament and a game that is usually tight, exciting and often blood and thunder football, can't we celebrate that?? Southgate is the England manager, he isn't some intellectual scribe so I would expect him to make some mistakes in interviews, doesn't mean it's politically motivated!! Maybe he will call our next opponent Czechslovakia!! Rivalry even more so because of Brexit and the extreme English nationalist politics attached to it Matt plus the brazen misuse of the Union Jack and trying to display it as a dominant Saint George Cross!! ![]() ![]() Then this clown came out with a classic bizarre insinuation that the SNP (keep them out of it eh!!) wouldn't exist had it not been for the first international game between England and Scotland in 1872!! Ehhhh - get your head around that one!! Needless to say these comments didn't go down well with certain reputable Scot university academics who were well qualified to recognise the great history of Scottish footie and the international footie team - quite a few guffaws thrown in for good measure!!! Anyway, back to the footie and to all Scotland fans: I watched Italy playing out their second group match v Switzerland tonight - a 3-0 result and they are such a formidable team with eye-watering stats attached to them: 29 matches unbeaten and 965 mins without conceding a goal!!! Wowwww!! From a Scotland perspective, it shows us the huge difference collectively in class and player standards that we are trying at least to get close to. Scotland's progress is still a long-term project to try and "bridge that gap" as best that we can. It aint easy; but there are some positive "green shoots" coming through in what has been a long, evolving process of bringing in a new generation of talented Scottish footballers!!! RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - Tobias Chuddlewick - 17-06-2021 Each team will be doing their best to win & earn three points. Is this over simplified ? Seems to be far too many issues on here , so long as we don't tell the players involved and confuse them totally. RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - hibeejim21 - 17-06-2021 I don't think we have any chance personally. I have no problem admitting England are a lot better than us. Sometimes though football does throw up the odd surprise though, part of the reason why so many of us still watch it. I guess anything can happen in a derby game, I'm clinging to that one anyway ![]() RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - WakeyTerrier - 17-06-2021 Looking forward to this one and I'm lucky enough to have a ticket in the England end. I have no problem with Scotland fans, we had a good drink with them at Wembley on the last visit and no problems on our last meeting in Glasgow. Normally find them a good knowledgeable bunch of supporters . Having said that....I hope we thrash you out of sight ![]() Scotland have nothing to lose and everything to gain. England really have little to gain but a national embarrassment if they lose and that is no disrespect to Scotland it's just how the papers South of the border will portray it. RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - Lord Snooty - 17-06-2021 Didn't Scotland nearly win last time? A Harry Kane injury time equaliser wasn't it? Wasn't that long ago, but watching the tv coverage you'd think the last game was when Gazza scored. Mate, the way they were talking about Italy last night you would think they were plucky underdogs here to take on the big boys. They are the xxxx big boys ![]() The delusion of the English media knows no bounds. Italy have been to 9 finals and won 5 of them, they are way more successful at this level than England. "served warning they are here to take on the big boys" .... I mean seriously ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - HerefordBull - 17-06-2021 Looking forward to the game and being Welsh have no beef about who wins. Personally feel England will cruise it especially having witnessed the Scottish back line the other day. Just hoping for an entertaining game and good luck to both sides. Cymru am byth ![]() RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - 0762 - 17-06-2021 Looks like the Tartan Army is on the move today - train stations absolutely heaving with Scotland fans heading south to the chants of "Yes sir I can boogie"!! ![]() ![]() RE: England, aka rUK v Scotland, Fri 18 June - Tobias Chuddlewick - 17-06-2021 (17-06-2021, 13:22)0762 Wrote: Looks like the Tartan Army is on the move today - train stations absolutely heaving with Scotland fans heading south to the chants of "Yes sir I can boogie"!! Too casual for a true Scottish player, just like Marshall against the Czechs. Also, I wouldn't celebrate thousands of ticketless Scottish fans heading for London. Have we really forgotten we are still in the middle of a pandemic? Let's hope all they bring back are sore heads. Come on Scotland, do yourselves and the fans proud - from a distance! |
